Job summary

The Center for Violence Prevention Research seeks a part-time Data Analyst to support rigorous quantitative analyses. This role involves data cleaning and preparation, descriptive and inferential analyses, and responding to ad hoc requests across projects using survey and national surveillance data.

Ideal candidates have a Master’s in a relevant field, are proficient in R, and maintain strong data-management and reproducible-research practices.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in statistics, epidemiology, public health, social work, psychology, data science, or related field.
  • Proficiency in data management and statistical analysis using R.
  • Experience cleaning, managing, and preparing datasets for analysis.
  • Experience with descriptive and inferential statistical analyses.
  • Familiarity with reproducible research practices, including code documentation and version control.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Perform data cleaning and preparation for analysis.

PositionSummary

TheCenterisseekingaPart-TimeDataAnalysttosupportrigorousquantitativeanalysesthat advance understanding and prevention of violence in its many forms. This position will contributetoongoingresearcheffortsbyconductingdatacleaningandpreparation,performing ad hoc analyses in response to team requests, and assisting with descriptive and inferential analysesacrossmultipleprojects.Theanalystwillworkwithsurveydata,nationalsurveillance datasets, and other complex data sources, and will be expected to follow rigorous data managementandreproducibilitystandards.Thisisanexcellentopportunityforacandidatewho isdetail-oriented,analyticallyskilled,andcommittedtoproducingresearchthatinformspolicy and practice.

KeyResponsibilities
DataCleaningandPreparation
  • Clean,screen,andvalidatedatasetswhileensuringcompliancewithdatasecurityand protection requirements.
  • Identifyandresolvedataqualityissues,includingfraudulentresponses,missingvalues, outliers, and coding inconsistencies.
  • Prepareanddocumentanalysis-readydatasetsinaccordancewithdatasecurityandprotection requirements.
  • Maintainwell-organized,clearlylabeleddatafilesanddocumentationtosupportreproducible workflows.
QuantitativeAnalysis
  • Conductdescriptiveandpreliminarystatisticalanalysesonprojectsalignedwiththe Center’s mission.
  • Supportthedevelopmentandimplementationofanalysisplansincollaborationwithseniorstaff.
  • Conductsensitivitychecksandbasicmodeldiagnosticstosupportthevalidityoffindings.
AdHocAnalysesandDataRequests
  • Respondtointernaldatarequestsfromresearchteammembers,includingPIsandproject managers, in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Conducttargetedanalysestoanswerspecificresearchoroperationalquestionsastheyarise.
  • Summarizeandpresentfindingsfromadhocanalysesinclear,accessibleformats appropriate for varied audiences.
  • Flagnotablepatternsordataanomaliesforteamreviewanddiscussion.
DataDocumentationandReproducibility
  • Saveandarchivecodeforreplicationpurposes
  • Adopt gold-standard data management practices, including version control, secure datastorage, and comprehensive documentation.
  • Maintaindetaileddocumentationofanalyticprocedures,datatransformations,and decision points.
  • Contributetothemaintenanceofcodebooksandanalysispipelinestoensure transparency and reproducibility.
DisseminationSupport
  • Assistinpreparingdatatables,figures,andsummarystatisticsformanuscripts,reports, and presentations.
  • Supportinternalteamsintranslatingresearchfindingsintopracticeandpolicyapplications
RequiredQualifications
  • Master’sdegreeinstatistics,epidemiology,publichealth,socialwork,psychology,data science, or a related field.
  • ProficiencyindatamanagementandstatisticalanalysisusingR(required).
  • Demonstratedexperiencecleaning,managing,andpreparingdatasetsforanalysis.
  • Experienceconductingdescriptiveandinferentialstatistical analyses.
  • Familiaritywithreproducibleresearchpractices,includingcodedocumentationandversioncontrol.
  • AuthorizationtoworkintheUnitedStates.
IdealCandidatesWillHave
  • Experienceworkingwithnationalsurveillance,surveys,restricted-accessadministrativedatasets (e.g., NVDRS, NCANDS, vital records).
  • Strongattentiontodetailandorganizationalskills.
  • Abilitytomanagemultiplerequestsanddeadlineswhileworkingindependentlyinaremoteenvironment.
  • Comfortworkingbothindependentlyandcollaborativelyaspartof adistributedteam.
