Job summary

Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Little Rock seeks a Data Analyst to ensure data quality and generate insights across business, medical, operations and finance. You will retrieve, analyze and summarize data to support decisions and initiatives with reports and visualizations.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree or five years in health data, plus at least three years of analytics using SAS, SQL and Cognos.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
  • 5 years health-related, non-clerical experience in healthcare/insurance acceptable in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum 3 years of data analytics experience (data extraction/manipulation, repository building, data interpretation).
  • Masters in related field with 1 year analytics experience acceptable.
  • Experience with rational databases (SAS, SQL, AQT) and MS Windows-based query software.
  • Experience with data management/analysis tools (MS Access, SAS, R, S+, SQL, Cognos).

Responsibilities

  • Consult with users to identify data sources, required elements and validation standards.
  • Integrate data from multiple sources, ensure accuracy and update data for analytics and decision making.
  • Interpret data to identify trends, perform root cause analysis, and suggest process improvements.
  • Develop ad-hoc reports and standard reporting processes for ongoing needs.
  • Contribute to special projects as needed.

Job description

Job Summary

This position provides critical support for the quality, validity and integrity of confidential data to use in decision making and organizational efficiency improvement initiatives. The Data Analyst retrieves, analyzes and summarizes business, medical, operations, financial, sales, customer and/or economic data in order to develop competitive and business intelligence, to optimize effectiveness and/or predict business outcomes. Incumbent identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends or patterns and prepares ongoing reports and data visualizations in order to support business decisions.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Math, Business, Data Science/Informatics, Actuarial Science, Healthcare Management, or other related field.
  • In lieu of degree, five (5) years' health-related, non-clerical experience with an insurance, managed care, or healthcare technology-related organization will be considered.
  • Minimum three (3) years' data analytics experience, which includes data extraction, data manipulation, repository building and data interpretation.
  • Or applicable Masters in related field with minimum one (1) years' data analytics experience.
  • Experience with rational database i.e. SAS, SQL, AQT and MS Windows based query software.
  • Experience with the application of data management and analysis tools including but not limited to MS Access, SAS, R, S+, SQL, or Cognos preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Consults with users or decision makers to identify data sources, required data elements, and/or data validation standards.
  • Integrates data from multiple data sources or functional areas, ensures data accuracy and integrity, and updates data as needed to develop statistics and design methodologies to be used for decision making and new business initiatives.
  • Interprets data to identify business trends, conduct root cause analysis of business problems, and suggest areas for process improvement.
  • Manages and uses ad-hoc report requests and findings to develop reporting processes.
  • Serves on special projects.
