Job summary

CareDx is seeking a Bioinformatics/Data Science Intern to join the Data and AI team. You will develop and apply computational methods to analyze NGS and omics data for transplant-related diagnostics.

The role offers mentorship from senior bioinformaticians, exposure to real-world data products, and opportunities to contribute to AI-enabled analyses supporting clinical decisions. Duration is 10–12 weeks, 40 hours per week, paid at $40/hour.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Data Science, or related field.
• Proficiency with Python, R or similar.
• Experience analyzing NGS data (targeted sequencing, WGS/WES, RNA-seq).
• Familiarity with Linux, scripting, and Git.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with scientists across R&D for experimental design, data analysis, and troubleshooting.

CareDx is seeking an intern to join the Bioinformatics and Data Science group within the Data and AI team. The intern will contribute to the development of clinical tests that inform diagnosis and treatment for transplant patients, applying and developing bioinformatics and statistical methods to analyze next-generation sequencing (NGS) and omics datasets.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with scientists and research associates throughout R&D, including experimental design, data analysis, interpretation, and troubleshooting.
• Work closely with laboratory teams to address scientific questions using bioinformatics methods and tools.
• Design, develop, and run computational pipelines for NGS and genomic data analysis.
• Evaluate the performance of emerging technology platforms and assays.
• Maintain clear, detailed documentation of analyses, methods, and results.
• Present findings and progress updates at team meetings and to scientific collaborators.
• Expand computational biology and programming skills through project work, seminars, and training.
• Apply AI-enabled research and structured problem framing to identify and prioritize high-value data opportunities across solid organ transplant and cell therapy and transplant programs.
• Evaluate strategic opportunities for new or enhanced data products, biopharma collaborations, and real-world evidence generation by assessing unmet need, data feasibility, clinical and business value, and execution risk.
• Synthesize internal and external evidence into concise recommendations, decision frameworks, and pilot proposals for scientific, product, medical, and business stakeholders.

Minimum Education, Experience, & Specialized Knowledge (Required):

• Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Data Science, Biostatistics, Biomedical Informatics, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Life Sciences, Physics, or a related field.
• Knowledge of bioinformatics and computational genomics.
• Proficiency in Python, R, or another relevant programming language.
• Experience analyzing NGS data, such as targeted sequencing, whole-genome or whole-exome sequencing, or RNA-seq.
• Familiarity with Linux environments, scripting, and version control tools such as Git.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience with cloud computing and database management is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to use AI tools and independent research to structure open-ended problems, test assumptions, and develop evidence-based recommendations.
• Entrepreneurial mindset and experience evaluating biotechnology, healthcare, or life-science opportunities; prior venture, strategy, product, or company-building experience is a plus.

Duration: 10-12 Weeks, 40 hours per week

Compensation: $40/hour
