Job Title: Dance Team Assistant Coach
Reports to: Head Coach and Athletic Director/High School Administration
Work Days: Per Season
Stipend: Schedule #6 During Basketball Season/#7 During Football Season
Stipend Schedule Range: Extra Pay Schedule #6 during Basketball Season (Stipend Range: $3355-$5033) and #7 during Football Season (Stipend Range: $2483-$$3724). Total Stipend Range for both seasons: $5838-$8757 (Schedule #6 + Schedule #7. Placement on stipend schedule based on experience.
JOB SUMMARY:
To support the dance program by assisting the head coach. To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in the student athletes. To upgrade his/her knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, consultation, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Applicants should be ISBE, ASEP, or NFHS Certified or have the willingness to receive certifications.
- Has the ability to follow direction and theory provided by the head coach at the High School Level.
- Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport.
- The assistant coach must have knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and, at the same time, be open to new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
- The assistant coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions.
SUPERVISES:
Students during home and away games, during travel and in activities of conditioning, practice and play
GENERAL:
- The success of athletic programs has a strong influence on the community's image of the entire system. The public exposure is a considerable responsibility and community/parent pressure for winning performance is taxing, but must not override the objectives of good sportsmanship and good mental health.
- The position includes other unusual aspect such as extended time, and risk injury factor.
- It is the express intent of this job description to give sufficient guidance to function. In cases not specifically covered, it shall be assumed that a coach shall exercise common sense and good judgment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Has a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the Mascoutah Community Schools' Board of Education and is responsible for their implementation by the entire staff of the sports program.
- Has knowledge of existing system, state and league regulations; implements same consistently and interprets them for staff.
- Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels. Is aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.
STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follows the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques taught by staff.
- Attends clinics according to local clinic policy.
- Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sport events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times.
- Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation.
- Performs such other duties which may be assigned by the head coach/athletic director/principal.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as a mentor to each athlete to promote the development and demonstration in student athlete’s the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
- By his/her presence at all practices games and while traveling, provides assistance, guidance and safeguards for each participant.
