Job summary

New York Edge, Inc. is seeking a part-time Dance Specialist for Manhattan to lead after-school dance programming at program sites. You will design lesson plans, teach youth, and ensure safety and engagement after school.

The ideal candidate has dance knowledge across styles and at least one year of youth teaching experience; in-person availability after school, Monday through Friday 2:30–5:30 pm, and a high school diploma are required.

Qualifications

• Must have dance knowledge and at least 1 year of youth teaching experience.
• Must be in-person at work and able to work after-school hours.
• Experience with children is strongly preferred.

What is a Dance Specialist:

Extended Day Activity Instructors - Dance Specialistsare responsible for leading after school programming for children and teens at New York Edge after-school program sites. The activity instructor is a dual reporting role, supporting the curriculum and instruction department team by designing lesson plans and implementing curricula across New York Edge program sites. They will also support the program director by preparing activity materials and explaining principles, techniques, and safety procedures to student participants. In addition, the specialist will establish clear goals and objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those goals and objectives to students.

What will you do:

• Build strong relationships with and among students
• Knowledgeable and skilled in one or more styles of dance and have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth in dance.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with program staff, school personnel, parents
• Teach or co-lead daily activities
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students
• Support the coordination of program events
• Administer pre and post-assessments and evaluations for student activities
• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• College credits and/or degrees are highly preferred
• Must be knowledgeable and skilled in Dance and have at least one year experience
• Experience working with children strongly preferred
• This role requires you to be in-person at work.

Schedule:

Part-Time:

Monday- Friday (2:30 pm - 5:30 pm)

Pay : $20-25/hour (based on experience and credentials)
