POSITION TITLE: Dance Instructor III / Program Aide
DEPARTMENT: Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center Kroc Center Hawaii
SUPERVISOR: Creative Arts and Education Manager
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt, Hourly
CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time- Hours vary to include weekends as needed

PAY RATES:

  • Program Aide- non-teaching duties: $16.00 per hour
  • Dance Instructor - actual instruction (teaching) duties: $40.00 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY: Dance Instructor III independently leads dance classes and is responsible for lesson planning, student development, and performance preparation. This role builds on foundational teaching skills by demonstrating strong classroom management, instructional consistency, and increased responsibility for program delivery and participant experience.

This position will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the way he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIREMENTS
  • 8+ years of dance, theater, or performing arts teaching experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead advanced classes independently and consistently
  • Proven expertise in choreography, technique instruction, and performance preparation
  • Strong classroom management and leadership/mentorship skills
  • Experience developing and implementing curriculum and structured lesson plans
  • Ability to assess student performance and implement advanced development strategies
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in dance or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
  • Professional experience in dance performance, choreography, or instruction
  • Experience preparing students for competitions, advanced performances, or showcases
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, or supervising instructors or assistants
  • 12 years’ experience in program development, curriculum design, or arts education leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to work with parents, volunteers, and community partners
  • Certifications or specialized training in dance techniques, youth development, or instruction
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Lead advanced and specialized dance classes with full responsibility for classroom management, instruction quality, and student outcomes
  • Design, implement, and refine curriculum and lesson plans; ensure alignment with program goals and submit as required
  • Demonstrate advanced techniques, choreography, and artistic expression while adapting instruction to diverse skill levels
  • Evaluate student progress, provide detailed feedback, and implement strategies to drive high-level skill development
  • Choreograph and prepare students for performances, recitals, competitions, and major program events
  • Foster a highly engaging, inclusive, and disciplined learning environment; set clear expectations and uphold program standards
  • Build strong relationships with students and families; proactively address and resolve concerns with professionalism
  • Oversee classroom operations, including setup/breakdown and ensuring proper use, organization, and care of equipment and facilities
  • Ensure accuracy of attendance, reporting, and program documentation; support program planning and administrative coordination
  • Lead and support execution of performances, events, outreach initiatives, and off-site programs
  • Provide exceptional customer service and maintain proactive, professional communication with students, families, staff, and community partners

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position requires sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, standing, walking, use of vision, pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25-50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds with assistance.
