Job summary

Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, invites applications for an Assistant Costume position in the Department of Dance. This role supports the Costume Director with construction, refurbishment, and maintenance of all Butler Ballet costumes and wardrobe for productions.

Responsibilities include assisting with sewing, storage, and inventory, working with student stitchers, and serving as Wardrobe crew.

Qualifications

• BA or BFA in theatre or related field required.
• Minimum 3 years of costume work in dance/theatre at collegiate or professional level.
• Advanced sewing, alteration, fabric dyeing, pattern reading, millinery, tutu construction skills.
• Experience in education or community settings is a plus.
• Must lift up to 50 pounds and navigate stairs as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist construction, refurbishment, and alteration of Butler University costumes for the Department of Dance.
• Support wardrobe storage, maintenance, and inventory management.
• Collaborate with student stitchers to complete projects.
• Serve as Wardrobe crew for productions.
• Occasionally operate university vehicles to transport equipment and materials.
