Job summary

Atmos Energy seeks a Damage Prevention professional in Johnson City, TN to locate and mark facilities, interpret maps, and coordinate with crews and contractors to prevent damage. Candidates will investigate damages, maintain records, and support safety initiatives at all times.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED with two years in related fields, plus valid OQs and a driver’s license. Strong communication and data-entry skills are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED and two years of experience in natural gas, damage prevention, service, construction and maintenance, or pipeline operations.
• Must obtain and maintain minimum Operator Qualifications (OQs) within six months and have a valid driver's license.
• Ability to communicate persuasively with internal and external customers; strong interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in using company web portals, taking/uploading digital photos, and data entry in systems.

Responsibilities

• Accurately locate and mark company facilities.
• Read and interpret system maps.
• Coordinate with crews/contractors for re-marking to prevent damage.
• Investigate natural gas facility damages for root causes.
• Maintain relationships with excavators and municipalities.
• Ensure maps and records reflect accurate damage-prevention data.
• Complete reports to comply with regulatory requirements.
• Assist other operations functions when needed.
• May hold stand-by duty, shifts, holidays, or weekends.
• May relocate outside regular work area as needed.
• Identify and report safety and encroachment issues.
• Ensure safe operation and inspection of company vehicles/equipment.

Accurately locates and marks company facilities (transmission & distribution systems, service lines, & other facilities).2. Reads and interprets system maps.3. Works with Company crews and outside contractors to be available for any needed re-marking to prevent damage.4. Conducts investigations of natural gas facility damages to determine root causes.5. Maintains working relationship with area excavators, municipalities, and Company personnel responsible for excavation activities. Reports any suspected damages to our system.6. Assures the accuracy of Company maps and records as they relate to damage prevention.7. Completes and maintains accurate records and reports to comply with Company and regulatory requirements.8. Assists other operations functions as needed and may perform C&M and Service work when not performing damage prevention duties.9. May be required to hold stand-by duty, work shifts, holidays, weekends, emergency call outs, and occasional extensive hours.10. Is subject to reporting outside regular work area.11. Identifies, addresses, and reports safety and encroachment issues to their resolution and completion.12. Is responsible for the safe operation and inspection of assigned Company vehicles and equipment.13. Must complete all required safety training.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducational/Experience Level:A general educational knowledge acquired through a high school diploma or a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and two years experience in natural gas, damage prevention activities, service, construction and maintenance, and/or pipeline operations. Requires a thorough understanding of Company operations.Certificates, Licenses, etc.:Must obtain and maintain minimum Operator Qualifications (OQs) and classroom training for position and any other required OQs and classroom training or certifications within six months. Requires valid driver's license in accordance with Company standards.Communication Skills:Requires the ability to communicate, persuade and/or influence internal and/or external customers. Must have strong interpersonal skills.Computer Skills:Requires ability to utilize the Company's internet/intranet web site, take and upload digital photos of marking activity to each line locate ticket, and utilize all available systems for data entry, reference and/or retrieval tasks.Work Conditions:Works outdoors in all types of weather and may be exposed to extremes of climate and temperatures, high noise levels, and rough terrain. May require overnight travel. May have residence requirement due to call-out response time.Works as an individual contributor and/or as member of a team.Physical Demands:Requires occasionally performing activities including, but not limited to, bending, stooping, grasping, reaching, twisting, turning and/or lifting. Requires an acute sense of sight and hearing (corrected or uncorrected) and strong sense of smell.
