Job summary

The City of San Diego, Public Utilities Department, seeks an Assistant Deputy Director to lead the Dam Safety team and oversee the implementation of a multi‑billion‑dollar rehabilitation and capital replacement program for dams. You will guide engineering studies, design and delivery of large projects, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Ideal candidates have California P.E. registration, strong leadership, and experience with major dam repair or replacement projects, budgets, and stakeholder

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Public/Admin, or related field.
• Seven (7) years of progressively responsible leadership experience.
• Combination of education and experience may qualify.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Dam Safety Program for the Department.
• Oversee dam program team including staff and consultants.
• Coordinate across engineering, planning, operations, and delivery teams.
• Represent the Program to City governing bodies and regulatory agencies.
• Prepare and manage annual operating, capital, and personnel budgets.
