Job summary

WVU Medicine is seeking a Cytotechnologist to process and screen cytological specimens across various body sites. You will work closely with Pathologists to review and interpret specimens, recognizing abnormal and normal cells and classifying findings.

The role requires graduation from a CAAHEP/CAHEA accredited program and state licensure where services are provided, with preferred ASCP certification. You will perform testing, assist with FNA adequacy, maintain equipment, and participate in

Responsibilities

• Perform and analyze according to SOP, basic and complex diagnostic procedures to ensure accurate results.
• Assist Physicians with FNA specimen adequacy determination during patient procedures.
• Prepare reagents and solutions accurately to complete tests per SOP.
• Restock work area and FNA carts with needed supplies.
• Prepare and accession patient specimens with proper labeling and information.
• Conduct quality assurance and control procedures to ensure reliable results.
• Troubleshoot instrument issues and resolve problems promptly.
• Participate in proficiency testing and reporting per established procedures.
• Notify appropriate personnel of abnormal results with full documentation.
• Participate in staff training and supervision as needed.

Job description

Certified by American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) as a Cytotechnologist. **EXPERIENCE:**1. Prepare and accession patient specimens, accepting only patient specimens for testing that are properly collected and labeled. Evaluate sufficiency of patient information given with specimens and resolve issues with specimen collection and specimen orders in accordance with established laboratory policies6. Perform required quality assurance and control procedures on a predetermined schedule to ascertain the reliability of reagents and laboratory equipment/instrumentation resulting in timely accurate reproducible test results to ensure quality7. Perform required troubleshooting and subsequent appropriate problem resolution, in a timely manner (e.g., review of the QC records).8. Participate, as required, in proficiency testing/interpretation/reporting using established procedures and resulting in a satisfactory report.9 Promptly verify, abnormal/panic results and notifies, as required per SOP, patient care unit and/or physician with full documentation of steps taken.10 Participate in the educational endeavors of the institution to meet the current and future needs of the hospital.11.
