About this position

Cytotechnologist

Summary

Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager the Cytotechnologist is responsible for the microscopic examination for cytologic diagnosis of GYN and NON-GYN samples. The Cytotechnologist performs procedures using established and approved protocols requiring the use of good clinical judgment. The cytotechnologist is also responsible in maintaining equipment and records, perform quality assurance activities ensuring test performance, in consultation with the Medical Director.

Education

Bachelor's Degree by an accredited school of cytotechnology or equivalent education.

Experience

3 years’ experience in cytotechnology laboratory within the last 10 years is preferred.

• Demonstrates the cognitive abilities necessary to master relevant content in clinical laboratory manuals.
• Comprehend, analyze, integrate, and synthesize clinical information or data as it relates to laboratory tests and procedures.
• Utilize reasoning and decision‑making skills appropriate to the practice of clinical laboratory science.
• Has the ability to operate laboratory equipment and adjust instruments to perform laboratory procedures.
• Is able to use an electronic keyboard to operate laboratory instruments and to calculate, record, evaluate and transmit laboratory information.

Working Conditions, Physical Environment and/or Safety Requirements

Lifting up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as files, books, etc. Hand/eye coordination, physical dexterity and fine motor skills. Has the ability to move freely and safely about the laboratory. Perform moderately taxing continuous physical work, often requiring prolonged sitting or standing over several hours.
