Job summary

Cabell Huntington Hospital is seeking a detail-oriented Cytotechnologist to join our Laboratory Services team. The Cytotechnologist provides diagnostic data on body specimens through microscopic evaluation, demanding strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently while upholding patient safety and quality standards.

Location: Cabell Huntington Hospital. Position Type: Full-Time. Department: Laboratory Services. A $5,000 Sign-On Bonus is available to eligible candidates.

Responsibilities

• Screen gynecologic and non-gynecologic smears to detect and differentiate normal and abnormal cells, assigning them to diagnostic classifications.
• Correlate and interpret data based on physiological conditions that may affect test results.
• Recognize problems, identify causes, evaluate alternatives, and recommend solutions.
• Operate analytical instruments used in cytologic testing, perform routine maintenance, and troubleshoot malfunctions.
• Prepare and stain cytology slides for examination.
• Operate laboratory computer systems for reporting results and processing charges.
• Independently classify PAP smear specimens; refer abnormal cases to the pathologist.
• Participate in proficiency testing and quality control programs, including rescreening of negatives and high-risk cases.
• Assist with FNA procedures and setting quality benchmarks for new procedures.
• Adhere to hospital safety standards and regulations; report safety concerns promptly.
• Work independently with professional judgment and accountability.

Key Responsibilities
