Job summary

Axia Women’s Health is hiring a Cytopreparatory Technician to deliver professional anatomic and clinical laboratory services focused on gynecologic cytology. Responsibilities include specimen preparation, quality control, and coordination with testing personnel in a 8:00 am–4:30 pm, Monday–Friday schedule.

Ideal candidates have a HS diploma, experience in anatomic pathology settings, and comfort operating Hologic T5000, ThinPrep Image Processor, and Sakura Stainer.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED required.
• Previous exposure to Anatomic Pathology Laboratory preferred.
• Experience operating Hologic T5000, ThinPrep Image Processor and Sakura Stainer preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare specimens using Hologic T5000, centrifugation, slide staining, and handling of specimens.
• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment per SOP.
• Deliver prepared specimens to testing personnel.
• File slides and containers and dispose of expired samples per retention policies.
• Assist management with inventory control and ordering of cytology supplies.
• Use independent judgment to perform related tasks.
• Solve problems with little or no supervision.
• Communicate with medical professionals clearly and professionally.
• Perform all tasks according to policy and procedures.
• Attend staff meetings and training, including continuing education.
• Perform other duties including data gathering and possible transport of samples.

The Cytopreparatory Technician

provides professional Anatomic and Clinical laboratory services, with a focus on Gynecologic and Non-Gynecologic Cytology, including the performance of, but not limited to the following: ThinPrep processing, including cytopreparation and staining of gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens, quality control, instrument maintenance and validation, testing validation, and all other functions toward the attainment of quality specimen testing within the laboratory. The Cytopreparatory Technician is trained according to CLIA guidelines with the approval of the Medical Director.

Hours for the position are

Monday-Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pm.

Essential Functions:

• Prepare specimens for testing by utilization of the Hologic T5000 Processor, centrifugation, slide staining, and loading and unloading of the instruments with the appropriate specimens.


• Perform the required preventative maintenance on all equipment as defined by the standard operating procedure within the scope of his/her duties.


• Manage the delivery of prepared specimens to appropriate testing personnel.


• File slides and specimen containers and discard expired samples according to laboratory retention and disposal policies.


• Assist laboratory management in the daily operations of all tasks as assigned, including inventory control and ordering of Cytology stains, solutions and other required supplies.


• Use independent judgment and knowledge to perform all related tasks.


• Solve problems and handle challenging situations with little or no supervision.


• Process clear written and oral communicative skills, and an aptitude for technical material in order to communicate with medical professionals.


• Perform all tasks according to policy & procedure.


• Attend all staff meetings and training, including continuing education programs.


• Perform other duties as assigned and deemed necessary including assisting in gathering data and possible transport of samples.

Skills:

• Possesses clear written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate with medical professionals in a professional and courteous manner.


• Aptitude for technical material and ability to learn the operation of and work with instrumentation.


• Ability to follow directions with assigned tasks and to prioritize those tasks and complete within the established time frames.


• Ability to perform basic computer keyboard data entry.


• Strong attention to detail.


• Ability to work independently.


• Demonstrative problem-solving skills.

Experience and Education:

• High school diploma/GED completion required.


• Previous exposure to the operations of an Anatomic Pathology Laboratory highly preferred.


• Previous experience operating the Hologic T5000 Processor, ThinPrep Image Processor, and Sakura Tissue-Tek Stainer highly preferred.

Pay or shift range: $20/hour to $23/hour

The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons.
