Job summary

BayCare in Tampa, FL seeks a Manager Technical Director Cytogenetics to provide scientific, technical, and operational oversight for the Cytogenetics Department, including chromosome analysis, FISH, and chromosomal microarray testing.

The role requires ABMGG Board Certified or Board Eligible, a doctoral degree, and at least five years in a related lab with two in clinical cytogenetics, plus strong leadership and regulatory expertise to ensure CLIA/CAP compliance.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree required for High-Complexity Laboratory Director per CLIA requirements.
• Five years in a related laboratory field, including two years in clinical cytogenetics.

Responsibilities

• Provides scientific, technical, and operational oversight for the Cytogenetics Department, including chromosome analysis, FISH, and chromosomal microarray testing.
• Independently reviews, interprets, and signs out cytogenetic cases and consults with pathologists, physicians, genetic counselors, and other healthcare professionals regarding test selection, result interpretation, and follow-up testing.
• Ensures accurate testing and compliance with CLIA, CAP, ACMG standards, and professional guidelines.
• Manages laboratory personnel and oversees staff training, competency assessment, and workflow design and optimization.
• Directs quality management, proficiency testing, and development/implementation of new tests.
• Exercises independent clinical judgment while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Education

Doctoral degree in Genetics, Human Genetics, Molecular Genetics, Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, or related field that meets CLIA High-Complexity Laboratory Director requirements
