Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Waukesha County is seeking a dynamic Group Exercise Instructor to lead adult fitness classes under the direction of the Fitness Director. You will deliver energizing, safe, and educational sessions that support the Y's mission of healthy living and community engagement.

You will build rapport with members, promote ongoing participation, and maintain class records while following YMCA policies. Prior experience is preferred, and some formats may require outside certifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, 18+ years old.
• Experience leading/instructing fitness classes preferred or equivalent education/experience.
• Some Group Exercise formats may require outside certifications before hire.

Overview

The YMCA of Greater Waukesha County is seeking a dynamic, health-focused Group Exercise Instructor to lead fitness classes. Under the direction of the Fitness Director and in accordance with Association policies, the Group Exercise Instructor delivers adult fitness classes focused on excellent customer service, safety, positive participant experience, and promoting wellness and engagement. All YMCA staff uphold the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in their work.

Responsibilities

• Complete all training provided and apply skills learned to lead adult fitness classes.
• Safely lead energizing, fun, effective, and educational group classes as directed by the Fitness Director to accomplish the Y mission and goals.
• Build strong rapport with members; help members connect with each other and with the Y, and promote ongoing participation in YMCA programs.
• Answer questions from members within scope of practice to support healthy living goals; maintain knowledge of wellness trends to provide effective information.
• Follow all Y policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures; report incidents as necessary.
• Promote YMCA programs and events and encourage regular participation in Group Fitness classes.
• Keep accurate class attendance records and ensure proper use and care of audio and studio equipment.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, and at least 18 years old.
• Previous experience leading/instructing fitness classes is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Select Group Exercise formats may require outside certifications prior to hire.
• Ability to teach more than one format is preferred; cross-training is provided for most formats.

Pay

• 30-Minute Class: $11.00 – $13.00
• 45-Minute Class: $16.00 – $18.00
• 60-Minute Class: $19.00 – $21.00
