Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a senior communications leader to shape how we communicate about cybersecurity. You will define the global narrative, lead communications for major product, research, and business milestones, and build sustained programs that explain how OpenAI advances cyber defense while addressing the risks created by powerful models.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of communications experience in cybersecurity or a highly technical field.
• Strong press instincts and relationships with cybersecurity, technology, policy, or business media.
• Sufficient technical fluency to credibly engage researchers, engineers, and journalists.
• Experience communicating products, research, threat findings, vulnerabilities, incidents, or policy issues.
• Exceptional judgment about accuracy, transparency, confidentiality, and risk of imprecise language.
• Ability to advise senior executives and technical leaders through high-visibility moments with clarity.
• Capacity to set strategy and execute details while aligning stakeholders behind a single story.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead communications strategy for OpenAI’s cybersecurity work, from narrative development to launches and threat reporting.
• Build a clear story about strengthening cyber defense while deploying advanced capabilities responsibly.
• Lead communications for major cybersecurity products, research, partnerships, policy initiatives, and milestones.
• Partner with product, research, security, policy, legal, and marketing to deliver coordinated communications across channels.
• Own media engagement and build relationships with leading cybersecurity, technology, policy, and business press.
• Advise senior leadership on positioning, messaging, and launch strategy for high-visibility security issues.
• Translate complex technical decisions into clear communications and maintain messaging systems for team alignment.
