Job summary

City of Fresno is seeking a Cybersecurity Specialist to design, implement, and manage security systems protecting city networks and data. You will build threat detection tools and support incident response within the SOC, ensuring robust security across the organization.

You will develop security standards, conduct vulnerability assessments, and guide remediation while staying current with threats. Strong credentials and DHS background checks may apply, with a pathway to lead Tier 3 SOC

Qualifications

• Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
• Three (3) years of experience equivalent to that gained in a cybersecurity engineering or infrastructure‑focused role
• High School Diploma or equivalent AND Five (5) years of experience equivalent to that gained in a cybersecurity engineering or infrastructure‑focused role

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage cybersecurity systems to protect city networks and data.
• Build and maintain tools for threat detection and incident response (e.g., SIEM, firewalls).
• Ensure performance of cybersecurity infrastructure through tuning and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with the Security Operations Center (SOC) to optimize tools and workflows.
• Develop and enforce security standards aligned with frameworks (e.g., NIST, HIPAA).
• Conduct vulnerability assessments and guide remediation efforts.
• Stay current on emerging threats and recommend system upgrades or new tools.
• Document system configurations, protocols, and operational procedures.
• Provide technical guidance to team members and may lead Tier 3 SOC operations.
