Job Description
General Description:
The Cybersecurity Technician supports the protection of the school division’s digital systems,
networks, and data. This entry-level role focuses on monitoring systems, assisting with
security measures, responding to security incidents, and promoting safe technology practices
among staff and students. The position plays a key role in safeguarding sensitive student and
staff information while maintaining compliance with education and data privacy regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- monitor security tools and alerting software for suspicious activity.
- Review alerts and reports and elevate potential threats.
- Assist in responding to phishing attempts, malware infections, and unauthorized access.
- Document incidents and actions taken.
- Create and maintain cybersecurity policies and internal processes.
- Audit technology environment to ensure compliance with internal controls and policies.
- Serve as subject matter expert for cybersecurity in stakeholder meetings to provide division-wide guidance and best practice information.
- Perform vetting processes for new software requests across the division.
- Perform role-based security awareness training for privileged users.
- Create and implement phishing campaigns and associated educational materials.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required in IT, Cybersecurity, or related field.
- CompTIA ITF+, A+, Network+, or Security+ preferred or the ability to obtain such certification within 1 year of employment.
- General understanding of threat hunting and management techniques
- General understanding of threat management, vulnerability management, patch management, SIEM, SOAR, MDR, XDR, security auditing, pen testing.
- General understanding of attack techniques includes ransomware, phishing, trojans, malware, root kits, spyware, DDOS, spoofing, hijacking, MITRE, and social engineering.
- General understanding of computer networks, operating systems, and cloud-based environments (IaaS, SaaS, PaaS)
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Good communication skills, especially when working with non-technical staff
- Ability to pass background checks required for working in a school environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate complex ideas simply and succinctly.

Salary: $75,345 to $115,866 Per Year
