Job summary

IBM is seeking a Cyber Security Apprentice to join the Security Operations Center and apply hands-on technical knowledge while supporting and preventing cyber threats for clients. The role emphasizes learning through an apprenticeship with a structured skills roadmap and mentorship, progressing to full-time roles after completion.

You'll engage in monitoring, incident response, vulnerability assessments, and toolset maintenance while developing in Windows/Linux environments and networking

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Some knowledge or experience with Windows/Linux operating systems.
  • General networking and infrastructure fundamentals.
  • Cyber security fundamentals.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and audit client systems to protect those systems, information, and data.
  • Monitor, track, and analyze networks/systems for security violations/ anomalies and respond to incidents.
  • Collaborate with teams to investigate potential security violations, respond, and report outcomes.
  • Perform continuous monitoring duties including vulnerability assessments, configuration reviews, and event analysis.
  • Conduct incident/event investigation and analyze security products and systems for weaknesses.
  • Assess and detect network vulnerabilities.
  • Maintain security system infrastructure.
  • Stay informed on cyber trends, threats, and vulnerabilities.
  • Install, configure, deploy, integrate, operate and maintain security toolsets.

Job description

Introduction

As an apprentice, you'll join with other apprentices in a local cohort. You'll go through your first few weeks together, learning about IBM and the skills you'll be attaining throughout your apprenticeship. Then, you'll work with your managers and mentors to progress through your personal skills roadmap, learning and demonstrating new knowledge and competencies through hands-on application with your project teams.

Your role and responsibilities

As a Cyber Security Apprentice at IBM, you'll work in Security Operations Center where you will have the opportunity to apply your technical knowledge using the latest tools and technologies in supporting and preventing cyber threats for our clients.

As Cyber Security Apprentice your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Monitor and audit client systems to ensure the protection of those systems, information resources, and data within
  • Monitor, track, and analyze networks/systems for potential securityviolations/anomalies and respond to all such incidents
  • Work with all teams to investigate potential security violations, respond, and report accordingly
  • Perform continuous monitoring duties such as vulnerability assessments, manual configuration reviews, and event analysis.
  • Conduct incident/event investigation and analysis and tests security products and systems to detect security weaknesses.
  • Assess and detect network vulnerabilities.
  • Maintain security system infrastructure.
  • Maintain awareness of cyber trends, threats, and vulnerabilities.
  • Install, configure, deploy, integrate,operateand maintain security toolsets.
What is an Apprenticeship?

IBM Apprenticeship Program is an official registered apprenticeship recognised by the Department of Labor (DOL). Every graduate of a Registered Apprenticeship program receives a nationally-recognised credential from the DOL.

During the apprenticeship duration, you will be required to complete specific learning hours and on the job training that has been outlined to ensure you are developing the skills and competencies essential to the role. You will be able to learn and grow at your own pace, but we expect most apprentices will complete their learning within 12 months. Once you graduate and receive your certificate from our apprentice programme, you will be eligible to apply to available full-time roles at IBM.

  • Security Programs Understanding: Basic understanding of security programmes and compliance requirements in industry-leading organisations, with curiosity about their application in various contexts.
  • Advisory Services Familiarity: Exposure to advisory services and the role of a trusted advisor in supporting client engagements, with awareness of the development of security solutions.

The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
