Job summary

Garmin is seeking a full-time Cyber Security Engineer 2 for its U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. You will support and operate Garmin's cybersecurity services, collaborate across teams, and contribute to threat detection, response, and automation initiatives.

You will engage in incident response, develop Python scripts, and help implement and optimize security tools such as EDR, email security, DNS security, PAM, and threat intelligence platforms.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Linux and Windows environments.
  • Experience with automation and scripting via APIs to integrate tools.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to cybersecurity teams and Garmin business segments.
  • Collaborate with a team of security professionals and promote knowledge sharing.
  • Identify opportunities to automate tooling and workflows via security APIs.
  • Estimate and coordinate assigned work; provide timely status updates.
  • Design and develop integrated security solutions to meet business needs.
  • Contribute to team roadmap and priorities and evaluate new security tech.
  • Implement and operate key security tools (EDR, email/DNS security, PAM, password management, forensic tools, threat intel).
  • Develop Python scripts to support automation and robust operations.
  • Troubleshoot security tool issues and coordinate with partners to improve security posture.
  • Stay informed on scripting/automation advancements to enhance team capabilities.

Job description

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Cyber Security Engineer 2 at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible fo the support and operation of Garmin's cybersecurity services. This individual will have a strong background in information security practices and services and an understanding of the threats to enterprise environments. This role will evaluate the threat landscape, identify risks to the organization, and enhance Garmin's capabilities to protect, detect, respond, and recover from security incidents. This role will collaborate across cybersecurity teams and Garmin business segments to ensure services are secure. This individual will also engage in incident response and remediation, providing technical guidance during security incidents.

Essential Functions
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to other cybersecurity teams and to Garmin business segments on multiple domains in cybersecurity
  • Collaborate across a team of highly skilled security professionals, promoting knowledge transfer, skill development, and a culture of continuous learning and improvement
  • Identify opportunities to enhance tool integrations and workflows through automation and scripting, leveraging APIs provided by security tools
  • Contribute to project and program planning by estimating and coordinating assigned work, and maintaining accurate, timely status updates on overall progress
  • Design and develop complex, integrated solutions to meet business requirements and enhance the performance of Garmin's security systems
  • Contribute to the team roadmap and priorities
  • Participate in the evaluation and adoption of emerging security technologies to improve threat detection, prevention, and response
  • Participate in the implementation, support, and operation of key security tools including EDR platforms, email security suites, DNS security solutions, PAM tools, enterprise password management, forensic tools, and threat intelligence platforms
  • Develop, test, and implement Python scripts to support automation initiatives, ensuring robust and reliable operations
  • Support troubleshooting of security tool issues and coordinate with partners to help improve the organization’s security posture
  • Stay informed on advancements in scripting and automation frameworks, ensuring continuous improvement in team capabilities
  • Foster innovation within the Cybersecurity Engineering team, identify gaps and enhance security operations through automation and integration of security tools
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or another relevant field AND a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
  • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders through strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Contribute positively to a collaborative, team-focused environment
  • Proactively solve moderately complex problems with a strong, solutions-oriented mindset and a track record of delivering effective resolutions
  • Manage time, priorities, and follow-up tasks independently
  • Consistently deliver well-organized, high-quality documentation aligned with team expectations
  • Understand core information technology services such as networking, storage, databases, and web-based services
  • Experience managing security tools such as EDR, email security suites, DNS security, PAM solutions, enterprise password management, forensic tools, and threat intelligence platforms
  • Experience working with Linux-based operating systems
  • Experience with Windows server and desktop environments
  • Experience with automation and scripting, using APIs to integrate and enhance security tools
