Job Overview

Information Technology Services at MCCCD is seeking an elite Cybersecurity Engineer to elevate Maricopa’s security posture and protect mission‑critical systems. Reporting to the Director of Security Operations, you’ll be the technical powerhouse driving security innovation across enterprise, cloud, and hybrid environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • 20% – Design, configure, deploy, and maintain enterprise security technologies including next‑generation firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection platforms (EDR/XDR), SIEM/SOAR solutions, and vulnerability management tools; continuously optimize to maximize detection and prevention capabilities.
  • 20% – Collaborate with network, systems, and cloud teams to implement secure configurations and hardening across on‑premises and cloud infrastructure; enforce security best practices and compliance standards.
  • 15% – Lead, plan, and execute enterprise‑wide cybersecurity projects focused on protecting critical assets, reducing risk, and ensuring regulatory compliance; serve as subject‑matter expert and trusted technical advisor to executive leadership.
  • 15% – Conduct, review, and analyze vulnerability scans across institutional systems; track remediation progress, prioritize risks, and coordinate mitigation with IT staff and application owners.
  • 15% – Identify and triage potential and valid threats by monitoring SIEM dashboards and responding to security alerts; conduct initial investigations, escalates incidents appropriately, and document findings with remediation recommendations.
  • 10% – Manage cross‑functional teams, assess vendor security postures, and implement enterprise security controls aligned with industry frameworks and best practices.
  • 5% – Participate in district‑wide committees and internal meetings; perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer security, or related field and five (5) years of technical experience in network, systems, and technology security.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in information technology and two (2) years of technical experience planning and overseeing information technology initiatives such as data security, systems development or network design, and related technologies.
  • OR Equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or certifications sufficient to perform essential duties; technical certifications may be used toward substitution of education and/or experience.
  • Experience with cloud security frameworks such as SASE.
  • Experience with vulnerability management and endpoint security.
  • Experience in threat detection, risk management, and mitigation strategies.
  • Experience scripting in Python, PowerShell, or Bash to automate security tasks and support incident response.
  • Experience with security configuration and hardening Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as OSCP, CISSP, CompTIA Security+, AWS Security Specialty, Azure Security Engineer, or Google Professional Cloud Security Engineer.

Compensation

$90,250 – $117,325 annually, DOE
