What You’ll Do

As a Cyber Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting the Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic (NIWC Atlantic) Expeditionary Enterprise Systems and Services (E2S2) Division. NIWC Atlantic provides design, acquisition, and sustainment services for Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC) Information Technology (IT) systems). This role falls under Cyber Security Engineer within our compensation framework. This position reports to Steve Dellinger. You will:

• Ensures that the product/service and process meet quality and safety standards
• Testing equipment to make sure that the process operates effectively and safely
• Interpret plans and drawings and contribute to the design and fabrication of test specimens
• Planning, implementing, upgrading, and monitoring cybersecurity measures to enhance cyber defense and maintain a resilient, secure network.
• Assess vulnerabilities, propose and execute remediation and risk mitigation strategies, and ensure appropriate security controls are in place to safeguard digital assets and critical infrastructure
• This position requires a balance of technical expertise, hands‑on problem solving, and experience in cybersecurity policy, compliance, and system protection in alignment with DoD standards and mission objectives
• Plan, implement, upgrade, and monitor cybersecurity measures to strengthen and maintain network defense
• Assess cybersecurity vulnerabilities for risk and propose and implement remediation actions or risk mitigation strategies
• Ensure security controls and countermeasures are properly implemented to protect digital files and networked systems
• Respond to cybersecurity incidents and breaches, re‑establish protections, and produce required documentation and reports
• Prepare, implement, and ensure compliance with cybersecurity policies, including Assessment and Authorization (A&A) requirements
• Deploy and operate enterprise tools that support advanced threat hunting, detection, and monitoring capabilities
• Implement network inspection and packet capture systems to identify and mitigate potential threats
• Perform equipment installation and configuration, maintaining high standards of cable management and system organization
• Collaborate with engineering, cyber, and program teams to maintain compliance with DoD, NIWC Atlantic, and MCSC cybersecurity standards
• Plans, develops, and implements proven high‑tech solutions to increase security and defend against hacking, malware and ransomware, insider threats, and other types of cybercrimes
• Oversees monitoring of computer networks, identifies security issues, and anticipates security breaches
• Executes the installation and maintenance of security programs, plans, and software, including firewalls and data encryption programs

What You’ll Bring

Required Qualifications

Must be proficient in using different technologies such as computers and other tools and systems pertinent to the position.

• Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity; Computer, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering; or Mathematics with a concentration in Computer Science, or an equivalent discipline is required.
• The degree program must be accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)
• The individual must hold a position‑based certification at Level I in Information Assurance Management (IAM), Information Assurance Technical (IAT), or Information Assurance System Architect and Engineer (IASAE), in accordance with DoD 8570.1M requirements
• Technical Expertise:
• Strong Trained in the skills and techniques related to engineering and/or software design/maintenance
• Possess a practical understanding of engineering concepts
• Clearance:
• Must have a current and active DoD Top‑Secret security clearance

Preferred (Nice to Have)

• SIEM Platforms: Azure Sentinel, Splunk, or ElasticSearch for event correlation and incident analysis
• Network Visibility Tools: Gigamon, NetFlow, or equivalent for enhanced traffic monitoring and flow analysis
• Firewall Technologies: Experience configuring and maintaining Palo Alto Networks NGFW or similar solutions
• Big Data Platforms: Familiarity with BDP-CHAOS (USMC Big Data Platform for Cyber Information) or related analytics environments
• SSL Break-and-Inspect solutions for outbound traffic inspection and decryption
• Working knowledge of DoD cybersecurity frameworks and defense IT compliance standards

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

• Periods of prolonged sitting and/or standing, including desk‑based computer work
• Travel between work locations, including company offices, customer sites, and government installations.
• Transport and use of work equipment, such as laptops and job‑related tools, during site visits.
• Work is performed in a secure facility where personal electronic devices (including Bluetooth‑or Wi‑Fi‑enabled devices) may be restricted.
• Work may be performed in industrial or potentially hazardous environments, including around heavy machinery and moving equipment.
• Regular exposure to outdoor conditions and varying weather.
• Physical activities may include bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials, consistent with established one‑person lift guidelines.
• Use of tools, equipment, and machinery as required for the role.
• Work at elevated heights using ladders, scaffolding, boom lifts, or scissor lifts.
• Communication with team members, customers, and stakeholders through verbal and written methods.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, work under deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
• Interaction with others in dynamic environments, including situations requiring problem‑solving and conflict resolution.
