Job summary

SyMec LLC in the United States seeks a Cyber Engineer to design, implement, and maintain security controls across DoD programs. You will work with systems engineers, ISSMs/ISSOs, and leadership to ensure Authority to Operate (ATO) and strengthen defenses against evolving threats.

Requires active DoD Top Secret clearance, 3–5 years of cybersecurity engineering, RMF/NIST 800-53, STIG experience, and DoD 8140/IAT Level II cert.

Qualifications

• Active DoD Top Secret clearance.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• 3–5+ years hands-on cybersecurity engineering experience.
• DoD 8140/IAT Level II+ certification at time of hire.
• RMF/NIST 800-53/STIG experience.
• US citizenship.

Responsibilities

• Engineer and integrate security solutions across networks, endpoints, and cloud environments supporting DoD programs.
• Implement RMF and NIST SP 800-53 controls.
• Apply DISA STIGs and remediate findings from ACAS/Nessus/SCAP scans.
• Support ATO packages, SSPs, POA&Ms, and artifacts in eMASS.
• Configure and tune SIEM, EDR, firewalls, and IDS/IPS.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments and lead remediation.
• Support incident response, continuous monitoring, and CCRI audits.
• Contribute to secure architecture reviews and Zero Trust initiatives.

SyMec helps deliver mission-critical technology and engineering solutions while protecting the systems that warfighters and national security professional rely on every day. We're looking for a Cyber Engineer who wants their work to matter.

As a Cyber Engineer, you'll design, implement, and maintain security controls across classified and unclassified defense systems. You'll work closely with systems engineers, ISSMs/ISSOs, and program leadership to make sure our systems achieve and keep their Authority to Operate (ATO), and to harden them against evolving threats.

** The Role**

• Engineer and integrate security solutions across networks, endpoints, and cloud environments supporting DoD programs
• Implement and validate security controls under the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and NIST SP 800-53
• Apply and verify DISA STIGs and SRGs; remediate findings from ACAS/Nessus and SCAP scans
• Support ATO packages, including System Security Plans (SSPs), POA&Ms, and artifacts in eMASS
• Configure and tune security tooling such as SIEM, EDR, firewalls, and IDS/IPS
• Conduct vulnerability assessments and help lead remediation
• Support incident response, continuous monitoring, and audit readiness (CCRI and similar inspections)
• Contribute to secure architecture reviews and Zero Trust initiatives

** Required Qualifications**

• Active DoD Top Secret clearance
• Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience (typically 4+ additional years)
• [3-5]+ years of hands-on cybersecurity engineering experience
• DoD 8140 (formerly 8570) compliant certification at IAT Level II or higher (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, GSEC) at time of hire
• Working knowledge of RMF, NIST 800-53, and STIG implementation
• Experience hardening Windows and Linux (RHEL) systems
• Familiarity with ACAS/Nessus, SCAP Compliance Checker, and vulnerability management workflows
• U.S. citizenship (required for clearance)
