Job summary

Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center is seeking a Surgical Technologist to prepare the operating room and assist the surgical team across a variety of procedures. You will set up instruments, support the team, and ensure sterility for optimal patient care.

The role requires adaptability, a strong team mindset, and a commitment to patient healing. Prior OR experience and relevant certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED upon hire.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • Minimum 3 years of recent experience as a Surgical Technologist.
  • Professional certification as CST or equivalent.
  • CPR/BLS certification within 14 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Set up surgical equipment and instruments for procedures.
  • Assist the surgical team and maintain sterile environment.
  • Communicate with Biomedical Services regarding equipment status.
  • Educate staff on instrumentation and equipment care.
  • Collaborate with OR team to support diverse surgeries.

Job description

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Surgical Tech, you will help prepare the operating room and surgical team so they can successfully perform a variety of surgical procedures for patients.

Every day you will set up surgical equipment and instruments, assist the surgical team, and ensure a sterile environment. You will be expected to adapt quickly, collaborate effectively within the OR team, and contribute directly to the patient's healing process.

To be successful in this role, you must possess adaptability, a strong team-player mindset, and enthusiasm for supporting complex surgical procedures.

  • Demonstrates superior knowledge and practice in the first scrub role
  • Understands supply costs and independently Works with team to assure that quality of care is maintained while cost containment is considered
  • Demonstrates superior knowledge of the varied surgical equipment and advanced surgical instrumentation. Assures appropriate equipment and supplies are available for each procedure
  • Assists in communication with Biomedical Services on the status of equipment needing repair or maintenance
  • Educates staff in the care of instrumentation and equipment
Job Requirements

Required

  • High School Graduate General Studies, upon hire or
  • High School GED General Studies, upon hire and
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program, upon hire and
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent, continuous experience as a Surgical Technologist in an acute care hospital setting, directly supporting a broad range of surgical specialties, upon hire and
  • Certified Surgical Technologist, upon hire or
  • Technologist in Surgery-Certified, upon hire or
  • Certified First Assistant - Certified Surgical Technologists, upon hire or
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse: CA, upon hire and
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, within 14 - days
Preferred
  • Associates Other Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology, upon hire and
  • Experience in high-acuity or specialized surgical areas (e.g., neurosurgery, cardiovascular, orthopedics, robotics), upon hire
