Job summary

Kensington Glass Arts, Inc. in Ijamsville, MD is seeking a Cutting Technician for the 1st shift. This in-house role focuses on cutting glass per the production schedule and supporting the cutting department.

You will label, sort, and stage glass, maintain a clean work area, operate and maintain machines, and adapt to schedule changes. The position offers full-time hours with starting pay of $18 per hour and a benefits package including medical and dental insurance and a 401(k).

Responsibilities

• Cut all glass as determined during daily optimizations
• Label, sort and stage glass correctly
• Maintain a clean work environment; clean up breakage and dispose of damaged glass
• Maintain, clean and organize cutoff and specialty stock racks
• Participate in additional required tasks and organize as needed
• Maintain regular cleaning, repair and general maintenance of machines and coordinate with workload
• Be instrumental and responsive to changes in the production schedule
• Other duties as assigned
• Work involves standing, frequent lifting up to 100 lbs and exposure to loud machinery

GENERAL SUMMARY

This is an in-house position. The Cutting Technician is primarily responsible for taking an active role in the cutting department and cut glass as required by the production schedule. Specific duties include, but are not entirely limited to:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for cutting all glass as determined during daily optimizations.
• Responsible for correct labeling of all glass, sorting and staging as required.
• Responsible for maintaining a clean work environment; cleaning up breakage, disposing of damaged glass, keeping a clean floor area around walking surfaces, keeping station desks clean and organized, etc
• Maintain, clean and organize all cutoff and specialty stock racks.
• Expected to be a participant in any activity requiring additional help, helping and organizing as required.
• Responsible for maintaining regular cleaning, repair and general maintenance of the machines and coordinating those efforts with our workload and management.
• Expected to be instrumental and responsive to changes in the production schedule as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

• Assist in developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for cutting processes.
• Assist in design and implementation of production KPMs.
• Assist in identification of KPMs to create a completely accountable, 100% customer satisfaction goal.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• While performing the duties of the job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
• The employee exerts up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
• Vision requirements include clarity of vision at 20 inches or less; clarity of vision at 20 feet or more; ability to identify and distinguish colors; the ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point; the ability to judge distances and spatial relationships; and the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.
• Work is performed in shop environment with frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions and vibration. There is occasional exposure to humid and extreme non-weather related cold or hot conditions. There is frequent exposure to constant very loud sounds sufficient enough to cause distraction.
