Position Summary:

The primary responsibility for this position is to operate our high-speed, large format Wohlenberg cutting machines to cut down covers and text stocks as needed for book and catalog production. The Cutter Machine Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining the cutters as well as other bindery equipment to finish printed materials according to specifications. This includes cutting, folding, stitching, drilling, and other post-press operations. The operator ensures quality and productivity standards are met while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

Job Description

Position Summary:

The primary responsibility for this position is to operate our high-speed, large format Wohlenberg cutting machines to cut down covers and text stocks as needed for book and catalog production. The Cutter Machine Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining the cutters as well as other bindery equipment to finish printed materials according to specifications. This includes cutting, folding, stitching, drilling, and other post-press operations. The operator ensures quality and productivity standards are met while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

Ability to read a ruler in U.S. and metric dimensions is a must.

Key Responsibilities:

• Read job layout and create cutting programs on cutter to cut covers and other stock for a variety of production needs.
• Review job orders to determine production specifications and materials required.
• Monitor machines during operation to ensure high-quality output and make necessary adjustments.
• Double check layouts and other job specifications for accuracy.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment and troubleshoot minor mechanical issues when trained by Supervisor or Team Lead
• Inspect finished products for quality assurance and ensure they meet customer specifications.
• Pack, label, and prepare finished products, typically cartons for shipping or further processing.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with company standards and OSHA regulations.
• Collaborate with press operators, quality control, production planners, General Management to meet deadlines.
• Record production data such as counts, times, and materials used.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or GED required, or demonstrated progress for either
• 1–3 years of experience operating bindery or print finishing equipment preferred, but not required
  
  

Technical Skills:

• Familiarity with bindery machinery and tools.
• Ability to read and interpret job tickets and finishing layouts.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to use measurement tools such as rulers and calipers.
  
  

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Prolonged periods standing and performing repetitive tasks for an entire 8-hour shift with breaks
• Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.
