Job summary

Citarella is seeking a dependable Cut Produce Associate for our Bronx Distribution Center. You will prepare, cut, package, and inspect fresh fruits and vegetables for delivery to Citarella markets.

The ideal candidate has strong knife skills, supports freshness and quality, and works efficiently in a fast-paced production environment while upholding Citarella standards for safety and presentation.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in produce preparation, commercial kitchens, food production, or a similar environment preferred.
• Good knife skills and ability to safely cut and prepare produce efficiently.
• Ability to follow preparation instructions, portion specifications, and production schedules.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to product freshness, quality, and consistency.

Responsibilities

• Wash, peel, trim, cut, and prepare fresh fruits and vegetables according to specifications and schedules.
• Safely use knives and equipment to ensure consistent cuts and portion control.
• Inspect produce for freshness, appearance, and quality; remove damaged items.
• Assemble, portion, package, and label cut produce for department standards.
• Prepare and fulfill daily produce and salad orders for distribution to Citarella markets.
• Follow proper dating, labeling, storage, and rotation procedures to maintain freshness.
• Maintain production efficiency while minimizing waste and meeting daily needs.
• Clean and sanitize knives, boards, equipment, and work areas.
• Follow food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.

Role Overview

Citarella is seeking a dependable, detail‑orientedCut Produce Associate to join our Distribution Center team in the Bronx. In this hands‑on role, you'll prepare, cut, package, and inspect fresh fruits and vegetables for delivery to our retail markets.

The ideal candidate has strong knife skills, takes pride in food quality, and works efficiently in a fast‑paced production environment while maintaining Citarella's standards for freshness, presentation, and food safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Wash, peel, trim, cut, and prepare fresh fruits and vegetables according to established specifications and production schedules.
• Safely use knives and food preparation equipment to ensure consistent cuts, portions, and product quality.
• Inspect produce for freshness, appearance, and quality, removing damaged or unsuitable items.
• Assemble, portion, package, and label cut produce products according to department standards.
• Prepare and fulfill daily produce and salad orders for distribution to Citarella retail stores.
• Follow proper product dating, labeling, storage, and rotation procedures to maintain freshness.
• Maintain production efficiency while minimizing product waste and meeting daily production needs.
• Clean and sanitize knives, cutting boards, equipment, workstations, and surrounding areas.
• Follow all applicable food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
• Communicate product shortages, quality concerns, and production issues to department leadership.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure accurate and timely completion of store orders.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications & Experience

• Previous experience in produce preparation, commercial kitchens, food production, or a similar environment preferred.
• Good knife skills and ability to safely cut and prepare produce efficiently.
• Ability to follow preparation instructions, portion specifications, and production schedules.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to product freshness, quality, and consistency.
• Basic knowledge of food handling, sanitation, and product storage practices, or willingness to learn.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced, production-focused environment.
• Dependable, organized, and comfortable working independently or as part of a team.
• Ability to understand and follow work instructions and communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.

Physical & Scheduling Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive cutting and preparation tasks.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull products weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in refrigerated and temperature-controlled production areas.
• Ability to safely handle knives and other food preparation equipment.
• Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on production needs.
