Job description

The purpose of this class is to act as a liaison between customers and organization; and assist with complaints, orders, errors, account questions, billings, cancelations and other queries.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Responds to customer inquiries via the telephone, email or in person; requires extensive knowledge of billing policies and procedures.
  • Reviews account data to determine the proper action to take regarding a customer's request for new service. Analyzes customer accounts to determine the proper action to take on a customer's request for a technician visit.
  • Negotiates payment of bad debt amounts prior to starting service or reconnecting accounts.
  • Takes payment information and other pertinent information such as addresses and phone numbers.
  • Analyzes various reports to verify accuracy and modify the information as needed to ensure proper billing.
  • Utilizes computer technology to handle high call volumes.
  • Collects fines, fees and payments; issues receipts; and maintains/balances cash drawer.
  • Reviews related reports received monthly from outside organizations; verifies accuracy of current addresses; and initiates service at an address if necessary.
  • Prepares, processes, copies, indexes, files, transmits and/or maintains various departmental documents.
  • Audits and ensures the security and confidentiality of files as appropriate.
  • Maintains office inventory levels such as paper, pens, toner, etc.
  • Receives interoffice mail and faxes to distribute to the appropriate personnel.
  • Accepts and reviews applications for water and/or sewer service for completeness and accuracy.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
