Job description

Alliance Logistix · Fresno, CA · On-site · Part-time, ongoing Shifts available: [AM / PM / weekend]

The shirt you're wearing, your toothbrush, the bed you slept in last night. All of it got where it is on a truck, and somebody was on a phone making sure that truck showed up. That's the job we're hiring for.

Alliance Logistix is a freight brokerage in Fresno. We set up 1,000 to 1,500 truckloads a week, mostly short runs with tight delivery windows. We wrote our own software, so you won't be fighting some clunky system all day.

This job lives on the phone. Most of your shift is talking with drivers and customers and sorting out small problems before they become big ones. You don't need experience in this industry and you don't need a degree. We will teach you.

We're here to work

We're a small company. There's no chain of approvals. If you need a decision, ask whoever can make it and you'll usually have an answer immediately.

Own your work, good and bad. If you make a mistake, say so. Nobody gets in trouble for raising their own mistake, and it's how the rest of us learn. We don't expect you to know this business when you start. We do expect you to be a lot better at it in six months.

And we want people who are glad when a teammate gets better at the job, not threatened by it.

We're hiring for the long run

This is part-time, but it isn't temporary. We build the schedule around school, another job, or family, and we're hoping whoever takes this seat is still with us years from now.

Promotions here go by skill, work ethic, dedication, and whether you keep learning. Not by seniority. Nobody is ahead of you just because they got here first. Prove yourself and you move up: full-time, bigger customers, harder problems, a real say in how we do things.

If you're just filling a few months before something else, tell us up front. No hard feelings, it's just not what this seat is for.

The work
  • Answer the phone. Drivers, trucking companies, customers.
  • Call drivers to check pickup and delivery times, update ETAs, and make sure nothing went wrong
  • Follow up on problems until they're actually fixed
  • Find trucks for loads that need one. Call around, agree on a price, send the paperwork.
  • Let customers know about a delay before they have to ask
  • Put all of it in the system. Your notes are what the next person works from.
What's good about it
  • Real responsibility, quickly. Within a few months you'll be handling things on your own that would have buried you in week one.
  • You're not competing with anyone here. No leaderboard, and nobody's paycheck depends on beating yours.
  • Your ideas actually go somewhere. The people who use our software all day are the ones who tell us what to fix.
  • Steady paycheck. No good months and bad months.
Things we'd rather you know now than find out in week three:
  • It's not remote and it's not flexible day to day. You're on a schedule and the team counts on you being there.
  • It's loud. Open room, everybody on the phone, constant interruptions. The interruptions are usually the job.
  • It's a same-day business. A problem at 2:00 gets handled at 2:00, not tomorrow.
  • You'll be wrong in front of people sometimes. Say it, fix it, keep going.
  • Drivers can be short with you. They're usually having a worse day than you are. Don't take it personally.
  • We're blunt. Nobody sugarcoats anything here. Nobody plays politics either.
  • Attendance really matters. We're small. When you're out, someone else is doing your work on top of theirs.

None of this is meant to scare you off. It's just the stuff people usually find out in month two
