Job description

Overview

The Cashier provides excellent customer service by efficiently and accurately processing customer transactions at the checkout lane. This individual creates a pleasant and friendly atmosphere, treating each customer and associate like family.

Pay for this position starts at $15.00 - $20.60 / hour.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be passionate about people and committed to customer service excellence!
  • Must be able to work as a team member and interact positively with customers.
  • Must possess a high standard of integrity and reliability.
  • Successful completion of e-learnings and department training programs.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to work a schedule based on the business needs of the store location.
  • Authorized to work within the U.S.
Responsibilities

The list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary by the company.

  1. Promote the company image as a service-oriented operation where every associate greets, assists, renders efficient service, and thanks customers in a prompt, courteous, friendly, and business-like manner.
  2. Commit to the “Golden Rule” and work with management and fellow associates to build a strong customer service team.
  3. Record all items at correct prices in their correct departments quickly and efficiently, utilizing all techniques specified in training.
  4. Verify identification for beer and wine purchases (where applicable).
  5. Follow company cash handling procedures and maintain acceptable over/short records.
  6. Participate in bagging customers’ orders properly, and check register for products before the customer leaves to ensure nothing is left behind.
  7. Notify customer service manager or assistant of any problems: customer inquiries or complaints, incorrect prices or poorly marked merchandise, errors with UPC codes, change and coin needs, potential security issues, store shrinkage, perishable overstock at check stand, or any unusual situations.
  8. Actively participate in controlling shrink, including checking for shoplifting, associate theft, and perishable overstock.
  9. Keep sales area and equipment clean, orderly, and safe; report hazards to management.
  10. Ensure standards of cleanliness, safety, proper food handling, sanitation, and productivity are met.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Secondary Job Functions
  • Cashiers may be scheduled as Service Clerks, Self-Checkout Assistants, or Head Cashiers based on business needs.
  • Return shopping carts and hand baskets to proper locations.
  • Assist in training new associates.
