Job summary

The City of Tukwila’s Department of Community Development is seeking a Permit Technician to join our team. This role supports the Permit Center handling building, electrical, plumbing, and related permits, and requires friendly, efficient customer service at the front desk, by phone, and via email.

You will work with a small team to process applications, enter data, and assist applicants with online portal navigation, insuring timely and accurate permit issuances.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED plus two years of general office support experience.
• Strong customer service skills and ability to explain permit processes.
• Experience with permit processing or building department procedures is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist applicants at the Permit Center by explaining permit processes and guiding document submissions.
• Enter information into the permit portal and route plans for review.
• Answer questions about inspection processes and permit regulations.
• Process development permit applications and maintain records in filing systems.
• Provide front-counter and phone support, schedule appointments, and handle records requests.
