ABB is seeking an Applications Expert for our Critical Power (ELSP) portfolio in the United States. You will lead as the subject matter authority on customer applications and solution design, developing standards, reference architectures, and best practices to empower the sales team and guide Product Management and R&D.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Energy Systems, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience as a customer application engineer or related experience.
  • Proven experience in Critical Power, UPS, Energy Storage, Power Conversion, or related applications.
  • Understanding of customer applications, solution architectures, market segments, and channel dynamics.
  • Ability to translate customer requirements into differentiated solutions aligned with strategy.

This position reports to:

Chapter Leader Product Management

As the Applications Expert for our Critical Power (ELSP) portfolio, you will serve as the subject matter authority on customer applications and solution design. You will develop and share best practices, standards, and guidelines that enable the sales team to position optimized, value-driven solutions while building organizational capabilities through coaching and mentoring. Acting as a critical bridge between market and organization, you will own application knowledge, reference architectures, and key use cases while capturing customer trends and translating them into actionable insights for Product Management and R&D to guide future product development and strategic priorities.

Job Responsibilites:
  • Integrates extensive technical expertise with market and business understanding
  • Fostering collaboration and innovation across teams
  • Build and nurture expertise in customer applications, solution architectures, market segments, channels, and customer value propositions for the Critical Power (ELSP) portfolio
  • Develop and maintain standards, methods, tools, and best practices for customer applications
  • Own and continuously evolve application knowledge, key use cases, reference architectures, and reusable solution frameworks
  • Facilitate cross-functional coordination for strategic applications, act as a subject matter expert
  • Promote effective collaboration and knowledge exchange with Sales, Product Management, R&D, and other Agile Units
  • Support business growth through driving ABB products being specified and customer requirements influenced and satisfied
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Energy Systems, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience as a customer application engineer or related experience
  • Proven experience in Critical Power, UPS, Energy Storage, Power Conversion, or related applications
  • Understanding of customer applications, solution architectures, market segments, and channel dynamics
  • Proven ability to translate customer requirements and application challenges into differentiated solutions and compelling customer value propositions and in line with Critical Power business strategy
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Good communication, presentation, and influencing skills, with proven ability to engage customers, understand application challenges, and articulate value-driven solutions
  • Experience on MV connected critical power systems and associated Grid Codes
  • Experience on Semiconductor industry, market requirements and system solutions, including LV and MV solutions
  • Demonstrates accountability, collaboration and adaptability on critical tasks and within the work environment
  • Experience defining standards, methodologies, tools, and best practices within a technical organization
  • Ability to operate and influence across complex stakeholder networks, including EPCs, consultants, end customers, channel partners, Sales, Product Management, and R&D

ABB provides 11 paid holidays. Vacation is provided based on years of service for hourly and non-exempt positions. Salaried exempt positions are provided vacation under a permissive time away policy.

While base salary is determined by things such as the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience, this position is expected to pay between $68,600 and $109,760 annually.
