Job summary

Daikin Applied Americas is seeking a Custom Engineer II to design and develop new products and improvements. The role blends engineering rigor with cross-functional collaboration in a hybrid Plymouth, MN setting.

The candidate will lead technical efforts, evaluate designs, manage prototypes, and coordinate material procurement and testing programs, while supporting sales with data-driven product insights.

Responsibilities

• Provide imaginative and thorough solutions to difficult problems.
• Provide technical leadership in cross-functional pricing authorization process.
• Support project management as technical lead or overall PM for moderate programs.
• Evaluate, analyze, and make recommendations on products, designs, and cost improvements.
• Procure materials to construct prototypes and supervise design engineering of new models.
• Plan and develop test programs for prototypes using DOE as needed.
• Analyze test data to ensure designs meet specs.
• Coordinate procurement of new materials to support model changes.
• Suggest cost improvements through product, vendor, and design changes.
• Perform technical analysis of competitive products and support marketing initiatives.
• Assist sales and marketing with product presentations and customer support.
• Use CAD/CAED tools to perform engineering tasks.
• Facilitate cross-functional design reviews.

Custom Engineer II – Plymouth, MN - Hybrid

Daikin Applied is seeking a Custom Engineer who will design and develop new products and product improvements by performing the duties below.

Location: Hybrid - Plymouth, MN

Your Responsibilities:

• Provide imaginative and thorough solutions to a wide range of difficult problems
• Provide technical leadership in Daikin’s proprietary cross-functional Factory Pricing Authorization process
• Support project management as technical lead, or for moderate programs as overall project manager
• Evaluate, analyze, and make recommendations on products, designs, and cost improvements to improve the competitive position of the company
• Procure materials needed to construct prototypes and supervises the design engineering of new models
• Plan and develop test programs for prototypes using Design of Experiments as needed for complex problems with many variables
• Analyze test data and reports to determine if designs meet functional, performance, and safety specifications
• Analyze, evaluate, source, and coordinate the procurement of new materials to support model changes
• Analyze, evaluate, and recommend cost improvement ideas through product, vendor, and design changes
• Perform technical analysis of competitive productsand provide data-driven support to marketing initiatives
• Provide support to sales and marketing on product presentations and customer support
• Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks
• Facilitate cross-functional communication and product design reviews

Your Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (Technical, Scientific, Engineering)
• 4+ years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• In-depth knowledge of principles and practices of engineering
• PC skills including Microsoft office applications
• Strong organizational, interpersonal and communications skills

Your Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of principles and practices of engineering in the HVAC industry
• Proficiency in agile project-management
• Basic skills with CAD applications

The typical annual base salary for this position ranges from$74,200 - $124,300 in Minnesota. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade which these positions fall. Individual base pay will depend on a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
