Job summary

Penn Hills Charter is seeking a custodial staff member to maintain cleanliness in classrooms and offices, operate cleaning equipment, and support events. The role includes snow removal, trash handling, and routine maintenance in a high-traffic school environment.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of interior and exterior custodial maintenance tasks in heavy foot-traffic areas, applying specific methods of cleaning for a school facility.
• Keeps facility and property in clean and orderly condition.
• Performs routine maintenance activities.
• Snow removal including manual shoveling and salting in slippery outdoor conditions.
• Heavy cleaning duties including restrooms.
• Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums floors; uses power equipment to buff floors.
• Strips and waxes floors.
• Gathers and empties trash into an outdoor receptacle.
• Scrubs, sanitizes, and maintains restroom facilities.
• Dusts furniture, walls, and equipment.
• Cleans windows, mirrors, and partitions with cleaners.
• Cleans and polishes fixtures and furniture.
• Shampoos or steam-cleans carpets and rugs.
• Manages cleaning supplies inventory.
• Drives vehicles required to perform duties.
• Communicates needs for repairs or system additions to supervisors.
• Maintain effective working relationships with staff, public, vendors.
• Respond to custodial requests and support events by setup/teardown of chairs, tables, etc.

Job description

Purpose:

Responsible for the cleanliness, sanitation, and routine maintenance of assigned areas in our school building, including but not limited to classrooms and offices. Maintenance and general repairs, as well as ability to operate standard cleaning equipment to include floor polisher, mop, wet and dry vacuum cleaners, and carpet cleaning equipment. Support special events by setting up and tearing down. The custodian works in an environment where children, families, and staff are present.

Requirements

Job Qualifications:

Working Conditions:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Position involves routine, repetitive operations with hands and physical skill and energy to include heavy lifting and constant movement. Work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms. Work in conditions that create fumes, dirt, loud noises and dust. Occasional work in inclement weather. Essential custodial maintenance may involve but is not limited to the following activities: reaching to full reach overhead; pushing; gripping with fingers; crouching; kneeling; shoveling; working in narrow or confined space; twisting at the waist, shoulders, and legs; crawling on hands and knees; lying on shoulder or back; walking; sitting; standing; climbing stairs; pushing and/or moving up to 50 lbs.; working atop a ladder or step stool. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to communicate verbally and hear.
