Job summary

Mesa Public Schools is seeking a full-time Custodian for Patterson Elementary School in Mesa, AZ. You will perform custodial duties to maintain a clean, safe learning environment and handle varied tasks across the campus during the 2nd shift with an additional $0.35/hr shift pay.

The role requires reliable attendance and adherence to district standards; prior custodial experience is valued and a high school education or GED is preferred.

New Hire Experience

Job Summary

To perform custodial duties as required by district standards; to maintain the cleanliness and safe conditions of a school environment

Prior to employment or during the first 3 months of new hire probationary period, drug and alcohol testing shall be required of all new contract employees who work in Operations. Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform custodial duties as required by district standards
• Perform many diversified tasks each day to maintain the cleanliness and safe condition of the schools
• Operate custodial power equipment
• Assist in moving equipment and furniture as required
• Regular and on-time attendance required
• Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
• Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools

Required Qualifications

• Working knowledge and experience of custodial equipment, supplies, and proper cleaning procedures

Preferred Qualifications

• High School education or GED preferred

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Custodians work inside classrooms, hallways, restrooms, gymnasiums, cafeterias, and offices, as well as outside maintaining school grounds
• Frequent use of cleaning solutions, disinfectants, and floor treatments requires proper safety precautions
• Exposed to high temperatures when working outsideRequires long periods of standing and walking, often covering large areas of the school throughout the shift
• Frequently bends to clean floors, pick up trash, and access low areas
• Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and other cleaning activities require repetitive arm and hand movements
• Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds
