Mesa Public Schools is seeking a part-time Custodian to maintain cleanliness and safe conditions across district schools in Mesa, AZ. The role supports daily operations and requires reliable attendance during 19–29 hours per week.

The position offers a base hourly rate of $17.12, no benefits, and opportunities for annual performance pay. New hire experience/education incentives apply within established limits.

Employment Type:

Base Hourly:

$17.12

Performance Pay:

Available annually

New Hire Experience:

1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a ten-year maximum

New Hire Education:

1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position

Job Summary:

To perform custodial duties as required by district standards; to maintain the cleanliness and safe conditions of a school environment.

Prior to Employment or During the First 3 Months of New Hire Probationary Period:

Drug and alcohol testing shall be required of all new contract employees who work in Operations. Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform custodial duties as required by district standards
• Perform many diversified tasks each day to maintain the cleanliness and safe condition of the schools
• Operate custodial power equipment
• Assist in moving equipment and furniture as required

• Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools

Required Qualifications:

• Working knowledge and experience of custodial equipment, supplies, and proper cleaning procedures

Preferred Qualifications:

• High School education or GED preferred

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

• Custodians work inside classrooms, hallways, restrooms, gymnasiums, cafeterias, and offices, as well as outside maintaining school grounds
• Frequent use of cleaning solutions, disinfectants, and floor treatments requires proper safety precautions
• Exposed to high temperatures when working outside
• Requires long periods of standing and walking, often covering large areas of the school throughout the shift
• Frequently bends to clean floors, pick up trash, and access low areas
• Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and other cleaning activities require repetitive arm and hand movements
• Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds
