Job summary

Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, ME is seeking a Custodian to perform dusting, mopping, buffing floors, carpet shampooing, and restroom restocking on a 7am–11am Monday–Friday schedule. The role emphasizes safety, equipment operation, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Unlock and secure doors during/after cleaning per procedures.
• Report needs to Project Manager and monitor supply levels.
• Assist in training new staff on routine procedures.
• Perform season/project specific cleaning and duties.

Job Summary

Performs custodial maintenance duties, including dusting, mopping, finishing and buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, and cleaning and restocking restrooms.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs routine custodial duties, including dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.
• Performs routine maintenance of custodial equipment and supplies.
• Empties trash receptacles and dispose of trash into compactors and/or dumpsters and bags trash for proper disposal.
• Unlocks doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areas.
• Reports needs and concerns to Project Manager, including checking supply levels.
• Ensures proper care in using and maintaining equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
• Assists in on-the-job training of new staff on routine procedures.
• Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
• Less than high school; no previous experience required.
• Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Distinguishing Characteristics
