Job summary

Maize USD 266 is seeking a Custodian to maintain a clean, safe school environment. Responsibilities include opening/closing the building, cleaning, minor repairs, and assisting with events. The role requires physical stamina and reliable attendance.

The position offers 40 hours per week, Jones of crossing guard duties, and seasonal upkeep with snow removal. A high school diploma and background check are required.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Knowledge of standard cleaning chemicals is helpful.
• Has a high school diploma.
• Able to perform physical job duties requiring 90% walking and 10% standing, including lifting and moving.
• Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance/punctuality.
• Must be regularly available and willing to work 40 hours per week as determined by the district.
• Must have a cleared background check and current TB skin test.

Responsibilities

• Assists with opening the building for the school day.
• Maintains cleanliness of the building; cleans bathrooms, floors, and common areas.
• Repairs building and equipment to keep facilities operational.
• Sets up equipment for daily activities and events.
• Provides crossing guard duties for student safety.
• Receives deliveries and stacks/distributes equipment and supplies.
• Assists with closing the building and cost control.
• Shovels, plows, and salts sidewalks during inclement weather.
• Participates in summer projects such as furniture setup and repairs.
• Moves furniture and supplies to relocate classrooms.
• Supervises students as needed to ensure safety.
• Keeps confidentiality per policies.

The job of the Custodian is done for the purpose of maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe environment assuring the proper operation of all facilities.

A Day in the Life

• Assists with opening the building in order for students and staff to begin the school day.
• Helps maintain cleanliness of the building including washing windows, picking up trash, cleaning bathrooms and drinking fountains, mopping floors when necessary.
• Repairs building and equipment as assigned to assure equipment is operational for students and staff.
• Sets up and replaces equipment as needed for daily activities such as lunch, as well as special activities such as evening programs.
• Provides crossing guard duties in order to ensure students, parents, and staff are able to cross the street safely.
• Helps receive deliveries and dispenses of equipment/supplies/furniture in their appropriate places.
• Assists with closing the building in order to ensure the building is secure and utility costs are minimized.
• Shovels, plows, and salts sidewalks and steps during inclement weather to ensure a safe environment.
• Assist with special projects such as putting together new furniture, painting walls, completing repairs, and doing major repairs, during summer months and at times when school is not in session.
• Moves furniture, equipment, and supplies for the purpose of re-locating classrooms.
• Supervises students as needed, in order to ensure safety.
• Maintains confidentiality as appropriate in order to comply with district, state and federal laws.
• Performs other duties as assigned in order to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe environment.

• Has a high school diploma.
• Is able to fulfill physical job duties requiring 90% walking and 10% standing. Time is spent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
• Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance/punctuality as required by the Board of Education policies and regulations.
• Must be regularly available and willing to work 40 hours per week, or such other hours as the district determines are necessary or desired.
• Must have a cleared background check and current TB skin test.
