Pay Range: $18.24 - $24.64 per hour

Essential Functions
  • Performs cleaning and maintenance of buildings, office facilities, and surrounding areas.
  • Acts as lead position; may be assigned to work at jail or detention center.
  • Trains and instructs custodial workers in proper methods, procedures, and infection control techniques.
  • Inspects completed work to determine conformance to accepted standards.
  • Supervises and participates in loading, unloading, and moving supplies, equipment, and furniture.
  • Documents and reports safety hazards and potential facility problems.
  • Checks inmate areas and trash bags for contraband; confiscates, documents, and disposes of contraband, and reports to corrections staff.
  • Transports inmate work crews in an assigned vehicle to satellite locations to perform custodial functions.
  • Maintains an inventory of custodial equipment and supplies.
  • Prepares cleaning and disinfectant solutions and ensures proper disposal.
  • Inspects equipment to determine needs for parts, repairs, overhaul, and replacement.
  • Supervises inmate work crews on job sites.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Four (4) years of experience in commercial, institutional, or industrial custodial work, including one (1) year of direct supervision of unskilled or semi‑skilled workers, OR two (2) years of experience with Pima County as a Custodian II or a closely related classification.
  • Relevant education from an accredited college or university may substitute for required work experience.
  • Qualifying education and experience must be documented in the application.
Selection Procedure

Pima County Human Resources will consider only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications. Applicants may be evaluated against advertised preferred qualifications. The hiring authority will interview candidates from a referral list.
