Job summary

University of Michigan is seeking a facilities custodian for a year-round, full-time role in the Student Life Facilities department. The 40-hour week includes Monday–Friday day shifts with weekend off, and the position pays hourly between $20.42 and $21.62.

Responsibilities include operating cleaning equipment, performing floor care, maintaining entrances, restrooms, and general areas, while adhering to safety and union guidelines. Employment requires eligibility to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Operate carpet and upholstery cleaning equipment.
• Operate mechanical cleaning and floor scrubbing equipment.
• Strip, or screen and apply finish to all floor surfaces.
• Maintain entrance areas by sweeping, salting, leaf blowing and snow shoveling as required.
• Clean grounds by picking up paper or trash around buildings.
• Wet mop floors and stairways.
• Operate and perform basic upkeep of custodial cleaning equipment.
• Clean and wax all furniture, cases, fixtures and furnishings.
• Clean mirrors and interior/exterior glass surfaces.
• Clean restrooms, remove trash, and sanitize fixtures.
• Stock restroom supplies.
• Dust and clean windows, ceilings and fixtures.
• Spot wash walls to remove splash marks and fingerprints.
• Collect and transport waste materials to designated areas.
• Mop up spills on floors or stairs.
• Obtain stock and maintain inventory of supplies.
• Open or lock buildings or rooms.
• Turn on/off lights and equipment.
• Occasionally access elevated surfaces by ladders.
• Move and arrange furniture as needed.
• Clean assigned area of work and equipment.

• Clean grounds by performing such duties as picking up paper or trash around buildings
• Wet mop floors and stairways
• Operate and perform basic upkeep of custodial cleaning equipment
• Clean and wax all furniture, cases, fixtures and furnishings
• Clean mirrors, interior side of exterior glass, both sides of interior glass and exterior entrance glass
• Clean restrooms, including removing paper or trash from toilets, urinals, and sinks as necessary without dismantling fixtures.
• Stock restroom supplies
• Dust and clean various type of window and ceiling fixtures
• Spot wash walls to remove splash marks, fingerprints and marks
• Collect and transport waste materials to designated areas
• Wet mop the areas of the floor or stairs to clean up such items as spilled liquid or food
• Obtain stock and maintain inventory of supplies in accordance with specific instructions
• Open or lock buildings or rooms
• Turn on and off lights and equipment
• Occasionally ascends/descends ladders to clean or access areas such as the tops of blinds, windows, doors, ledges, and other elevated surfaces
• Move and arrange furniture or furnishing
• Clean assigned area of work and equipment

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

Desired Qualifications

• Routinely move items weighing up to 50 lbs; must demonstrate good communication skills; must be able to follow instructions.
