Job summary

Sunset Ridge Middle School is seeking a Custodian I to work from 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. as a twelve-month position under Local 1933.

Salary is $23.37 per hour. The role focuses on maintaining a clean, safe environment for students and staff with duties spanning indoor cleaning, light maintenance, and outdoor grounds care. Responsibilities include coordinating with the Facilities Operations Manager, proving reliability for events, and adhering to safety standards in a dynamic school setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of cleaning practices in educational environments.
• Ability to perform semi-skilled building and equipment repairs.
• Ability to operate landscape and snow removal equipment.
• Board may accept alternatives to the above qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Keeps building and premises neat and clean, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas.
• Performs cleaning tasks such as sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, waxing, windows, trash removal and related functions.
• Performs outdoor tasks including snow/ice removal, mowing, trimming, edging, grounds maintenance and graffiti removal.
• Sanitizes restrooms and performs painting tasks as needed.
• Sets up and breaks down chairs, tables and equipment for events.
• Reports deficiencies and required repairs to the Head Custodian or Facilities Operations Manager.

Job Goal

Performance Responsibilities

• Keeps building and premises, including, but not limited to, all sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all times.
• Performs all cleaning tasks including but not limited to: sweeping, dusting, dry mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, removing graffiti, waxing, scrubbing, stripping, polishing, window cleaning, trash removal and all other related functions as directed.
• Performs all outdoor tasks including but not limited to: snow & ice removal, mowing, trimming, edging, leaf raking, sweeping/cleaning parking lots and playgrounds, cleaning roof drains, keep grounds free of litter, debris and graffiti.
• Sanitizes restrooms.
• Performs interior and exterior painting.
• Executes written and oral instructions.
• Maintains custodial closets and storerooms.
• Secures buildings and equipment.
• Maintains and marks athletic fields.
• Inspects and maintains life safety equipment.
• Ability to climb and work from ladders and scaffolding.
• Performs minor maintenance tasks such as changing lamps, ceiling tiles, and various repair tasks.
• Set-up and breakdown of chairs, tables, podiums and other equipment for events and activities.
• Promptly reports building deficiencies, issues, and in-depth required repairs to the Head Custodian and/or Head of Building Operations.
• Reports any damage to school property immediately to head custodian and/or head of building operations.
• When applicable, maintains and operates pool facilities to ensure safe, clean conditions and optimal water quality by performing tests, chemical adjustments, filter backwashing, and water level adjustments.
• Perform other tasks and responsibilities as delegated and/or assigned by supervisor and/or head custodian.

Terms of Employment

Twelve-month position. Salary and work year per contract with Local 1933.
