Under the direction of the Associate Director, Custodial Services,the custodian will provide various custodian and housekeepingsupport services for on and off Housing, Residential Life &Auxiliaries (HRLAs) complexes. The incumbent will be responsiblefor the overall cleanliness of assigned building, floors,facilities, foyers, stairwells, including but not limited tocleaning student rooms, common areas, lounges, kitchens andhallways; clean and disinfect bathrooms; strip and wax floors;clean windows; move furniture from one area to another; washconcrete areas outside of the buildings, execute the delivery andpickup of guest-requested items to and from guest rooms, maintaincarts and manage constant supply of clean linens for SummerConference programs, ensuring closets are fully stocked and removetrash and dirty linens including cleaning and care of flooring(e.g. carpet, tile, etc.) high dusting, edging, scrubbing, cleaningof desks, and perform other related duties as required. Tasks are expected to be performed in accordance with HRLAsexpectations of quality customer service. The incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive andprovide culturally sensitive services that enhance the quality ofcampus life, retention and graduation rate. This position uses astudent centered and equity minded approach in all communicationand service efforts.
Housing & Residential Life
Hourly/intermittent on call temporary position. Successfulcandidates may be appointed for a few days and up to one (1) yeardepending on the assignment. Temporary assignments may expire priorto the ending date.
Custodian
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, andqualifications the candidate brings to the position, internalequity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
The salary range for this classification is $19.97 to $21.19 per hour.
Ability to consistently report to work on time prepared to performthe duties of the position required. Ability to establish andmaintain cooperative working relationships and maintain a positiveand respectful attitude. Ability to work effectively andproductively as part of a team, required. Experience with workingwith a diverse group of individuals and multicultural universityenvironment, required. Working knowledge of standard safe workpractices, required. Ability to provide excellent customer serviceto the Campus community, vendors, and other outside agencies. Skillin performing customer service in a polite and timely fashion:ability to identify what customer needs and reroute him/her to thecorrect department; ability to relay customer requests andcomplaints accurately and appropriately; to describe and conveyservices provided by HRLA, required. Provide timely custodialservices, including lifting, moving, and transporting chemicals andor equipment, within buildings and work assignments throughoutHRLA, required. Ability to read labels on cleaning solutions,written directions and work schedules required. Ability to interactpolitely and courteously with university staff, faculty, and guestsrequired. Working knowledge of fundamental custodial proceduresrequired. Ability to clean and prepare guest rooms to establishHRLA standards for incoming guests required.
Solid work history.
Valid CA Driver's License required.
Heavy work - Job involves lifting more than 40pounds. Approximately half of the incumbent's time will be spentwalking, standing, squatting, kneeling, or climbing.
