Job Description

Salary placement: $16.08 to $18.38 per hour, depending on experience. Grade 106

This is a part-time position at 5.5 hours per day. Not eligible for benefits.

As a condition of employment, all new hires must obtain and maintain a valid Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).

The Custodian keeps the district buildings in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program. The Custodian performs assigned custodial duties and receives supervision from the Building Administrator and the Lead Custodian.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facility Sanitation and Maintenance

Performance Objective and Success Standards: Maintain a clean, hygienic, and aesthetically pleasing environment in all classrooms, offices, and common areas to support student learning and staff productivity.

  • 100% completion of daily cleaning checklists (vacuuming, dusting, trash removal, and window washing) within assigned shifts.
  • Sanitation levels meet or exceed district health standards, particularly in high-touch areas like restrooms and cafeterias.
Floor Care and Preservation

Performance Objective and Success Standards: Execute specialized floor maintenance routines to preserve the longevity and appearance of district flooring assets.

  • Hard-surfaced floors are consistently free of debris and maintained with a high-gloss, slip-resistant finish through regular scrubbing and polishing.
  • Timely execution of deep-cleaning cycles as scheduled by the supervisor or during school breaks.
Routine Repairs and Infrastructure Support

Performance Objective and Success Standards: Provide proactive and reactive minor maintenance to ensure building systems and furniture remain functional and safe.

  • Minor plumbing and electrical issues are resolved within 24 hours of identification or reporting.
  • Furniture and equipment setups for special events are completed accurately and according to the requested floor plan/timeline.
Safety, Security, and Risk Management

Performance Objective and Success Standards: Safeguard school property and occupants by monitoring building integrity and addressing environmental hazards immediately.

  • Zero security breaches resulting from unsecured doors or windows at the conclusion of the shift.
  • 100% of identified safety hazards and vandalism incidents are documented and reported to the Lead Custodian or Principal immediately upon discovery.
Resource Stewardship and Administration

Performance Objective and Success Standards: Manage custodial supplies and digital tools efficiently to ensure uninterrupted service delivery and compliance with district protocols.

  • Inventory levels are monitored accurately, with replenishment requests submitted to the Lead Custodian before stock-outs occur.
  • Maintains a consistent attendance record and completes all mandatory technology and safety training within designated district deadlines.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum one-year successful prior experience in custodial work for full time placement. Experience may be waived for part-time/substitute work

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

  • Cleaning Methods for designated spaces and equipment building.

Skilled in:

  • Minor maintenance and repairs.

Ability to:

  • Establish and maintain effective working-relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Pass Custodian Exam at required level of proficiency.
  • Read and comply with labels and OSHA safety warnings on cleaning agents and hazardous materials.
  • Perform strenuous physical activity related to custodial duties.
  • Work under minimal supervision - be an effective, self-starter.
  • Understand and follow both written and oral directions.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule from.
  • Interface effectively with other departments, school personnel, other maintenance staff, and business contacts from outside of the District.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud and can vary in temperature. The nature of this position is fast-paced and may occasionally be thought of as stressful. Through interaction with the public and other district employees, the employee may encounter different scents.
