Job summary

New London- Spicer School District is seeking a Full-Time Custodian to clean district facilities under the supervision of the Director of Buildings and Grounds.

Hours are Monday–Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, with occasional weekend events as needed. The role involves cleaning carpets, restrooms, windows, and classrooms, plus basic repairs and event support.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with basic cleaning experience.
• Knowledge of cleaning agents, safety data sheets, and proper labeling.
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Vacuum all carpets in learning areas, offices, and other places.
• Clean restrooms and dust entryways, halls, and other areas.
• Empty garbage cans and clean windows and classroom furniture.
• Clean and/or change lightbulbs and maintain entryways and walls.
• Utilize vacuums, buffers, scrubbers, and power tools as needed.
• Assist with day-to-day repairs and after-school event cleanup.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

General Definition of Work

Performs manual work cleaning District facilities, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Director of Buildings and Grounds.

Essential Functions

• Vacuum all carpets in learning areas, offices, and other places
• Clean restrooms
• Dust entryways, halls, and other areas
• Empty garbage cans
• Clean windows
• Clean classroom furniture
• Clean and/or change lightbulbs
• Clean entryways, bathrooms, walls, and light fixtures
• Ability to utilize vacuums, wax/buffers, automated scrubber, mechanical lift, and carpet extractor
• Utilization of forklift, lawnmower, snow blower, tractors with attachments and various power tools
• Ability to handle day to day repairs and fixes
• Tend to after school activities and clean up after events
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of School District policies and procedures; knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and products; knowledge of chemical cleaning agents; knowledge of MSDS sheets and reports; ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers and students. Able to read and understand labels, directions, and schedules.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED and minimal experience cleaning facilities, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force while lifting, pushing, and/or pulling; work regularly requires standing, walking, using hands to handle or feel, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions, frequently requires climbing, bending and/or balancing and occasionally requires speaking or hearing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and Bodily fluids; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Special Requirements

Driver's license required.

Pay:

$18.69/hour per Master Agreement
