Job summary

The Park School of Baltimore is seeking a Custodian/Evening Maintenance Support to maintain cleanliness, safety, and order in school facilities after hours. You will perform routine cleaning tasks, manage waste, and assist with minor maintenance, reporting to the Night Housekeeping Supervisor.

This 12-month, non-exempt Essential-As-Needed role requires emergency responsiveness and collaboration with security, with duties including bus operations if CDL is obtained.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and understand documents such as safety and operating manuals.
  • Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Valid Maryland driver’s License required.
  • Acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.
  • Ability to perform DOT physical and pass drug testing.
  • Willingness to obtain or hold a Maryland Class C CDL with P & S endorsements; the school supports paid training and licensing costs.
  • Calm under emergency situations and open to learning new systems and skills.

Responsibilities

  • Reset classrooms, offices, conference rooms, cafeteria, and common areas nightly.
  • Set up and break down events; ensure all areas return to normal.
  • Collaborate with Security to secure building doors and windows.
  • Maintain restrooms, empty trash, and assist with minor maintenance tasks.
  • Assist with traffic control as needed.
  • Complete assigned work orders and promote high standards of safety and efficiency.
  • Provide support for grounds and facilities maintenance as needed.
  • Serve as part of the school’s emergency response team, which may require managing weather-related cleanups or other critical operations.
  • Operate school buses for PM routes, field trips, and athletic trips — candidates must hold or be willing to obtain a Maryland Class CDL with P and S endorsements; school will provide paid training and cover licensing costs.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

THE POSITION

The Park School of Baltimore is seeking a Custodian/Evening Maintenance Support. This position, reporting to the Night Housekeeping Supervisor, provides after-hours support for school activities and maintains the cleanliness, safety, and orderliness of school facilities. This includes performing routine cleaning tasks, managing waste disposal, and assisting with minor maintenance needs.

Essential Personnel Designation

This is a 12 month, non-exempt position. This position is designated as Essential-As-Needed Personnel, requiring participation in emergency or adverse weather situations when most employees would typically be home. Responsibilities may include early arrival, extended shifts, or remaining on-site to support operations, facility readiness, or emergency clean-up.

Responsibilities

  • Operate school buses for PM routes, field trips, and athletic trips — candidates must hold or be willing to obtain a Maryland Class C Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements. The school will provide paid time for training and cover the cost to obtain the license. Employees are expected to complete this process in a timely manner (approximately six months from hire); the ability to obtain and maintain CDL credentials is a condition of continued employment in this role.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, bending, stooping, and crouching.
  • Ability to operate in all weather conditions.
  • Must handle moderate-to-heavy physical activity associated with cleaning, setup, and emergency response tasks.
WORK HOURS
  • Monday–Friday, 2:30–11 p.m., with occasional day or weekend shifts.
  • On‑call rotation on a regularly assigned basis; responding to after‑hour alarm calls when necessary.
  • Required participation in emergency and adverse weather operations as Essential Personnel.
WAGES

This is a non-exempt position that pays $17.00-19.25/hr
