Responsibilities cover moving furniture, securing buildings, reporting maintenance issues, and complying with background checks. The position requires physical stamina and ability to operate commercial cleaning equipment. Hours are full-time, 8 per day, 260 days per year.

Responsibilities

• Performs general cleaning duties inside fixtures, floors, walls, and windows.
• Assists with cafeteria cleaning and lunch coverage.
• Moves furniture, strips floors, cleans carpets, and removes trash.
• Monitors restrooms and inventory levels, keeps areas stocked.
• Secures building and reports maintenance issues to BOS.
• Cleans grounds and walkways; supports after-school activities.
• Sets up and tears down for school events.
• Occasionally assists with building repairs as needed.
• Unlocks and locks facilities; follows priorities with supervisor approval.
• Works as directed by Custodial Manager and Zone Supervisor.

General Description

Position is responsible for general cleaning duties of a school or administrative building that may require frequent lifting up to 45 pounds, moving up to 75 pounds and the operation of commercial cleaning equipment. Tasks performed are specific with recurring assignments and are performed under general supervision of Building Operations Supervisor. May be required to work after hours, weekends and holidays. Will be required to work Monday – Friday.

Job Description

Essential Job Functions:

• Performs general cleaning duties to include inside fixtures, floors, walls, and windows.
• Assists with school lunch coverage (day shift) and cleaning of cafeteria.
• Performs cleaning duties to include moving furniture, stripping floors, snow removal, and trash removal.
• Monitors halls and restrooms to ensure adequate stock levels.
• Secures building where applicable.
• Keeps grounds and outside walkways clean around the immediate perimeter of the building.
• Provides coverage for after school and weekend activities.
• Setting-up and tearing-down for school events
• May be occasionally required to assist Building Operations Supervisor (BOS) and maintenance personnel with building repairs.
• Unlock and lock facilities as required.
• Reports maintenance issues and preventative repairs to BOS daily.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, handle paper files, records, computer and equipment controls, talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. The employee must frequently lift up to 45 pounds and/or move up to 75 pounds and possess the strength to operate commercial cleaning equipment.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to hot or cold conditions and risk of electrical shock. Some work is performed outside. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.

Qualifications

Working knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and cleaning standards. Ability to operate commercial cleaning equipment. Requires the ability to use standard English to: read, communicate, understand and follow written instructions; write simple sentences, and comprehend labeling on products. Ability to work safely and efficiently with machinery. Basic computer and keyboarding skills.
