Pomperaug Regional School District 15 is seeking a Custodian IV at Pomperaug High School for Monday through Friday, 2:30–11:00. Responsibilities include cleaning, maintenance, and snow removal, under supervision of Head Custodian.
The role requires physical stamina to perform lifting up to 90 pounds, operate cleaning equipment, and assist staff and the public as needed, with a focus on reliable operations of building and grounds.
School custodians perform manual work which follows well established procedures. Duties are usually routine and can be learned on the job. Work is done under the supervision of a working Head Custodian. Assignments include the use of machines and materials to clean and maintain assigned areas. Other duties require outside work, maintaining grounds and engaging in snow removal in winter months. All facets of building and grounds cleaning, repair, and maintenance are included in the Custodian IV's work responsibility.
Sufficient physical strength and agility to do manual labor. While performing duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use his hands to handle and feel objects, tools, or other items (above his head and on his back), must hear and speak. The employee must frequently squat, bend, stoop, sit, or kneel, all while engaged in tasks requiring the lifting of items, using tools, or performing maintenance tasks. The employee uses hand strength to grasp and use tools, carry heavy loads, and climb ladders and stairs. The employee will frequently twist at the neck and/or trunk more than average people in the performance of this job.
The employee must be able to lift 50# and have a full range of motion. Lifting items such as 50# bags, tool boxes, etc are required. Occasionally, much heavier items are lifted such as motors, crates, furniture, etc., requiring the employee to lift up to 90#.
Good hearing and vision (corrected) are required to perform this job. The employee will also on occasion have to move/roll heavy items such as scaffold, furniture, tables, desks, equipment.
