Job Summary/Basic Functions

This position is for the evening shift 4PM-12:30AM, Monday – Friday. This is work providing leadership to employees in the Custodian 1 classification while also performing daily housekeeping duties including cleaning restrooms, classrooms, lecture halls, offices, common-use areas, halls and corridors, stairwells, and carpet and tile floors in a professional manner.

Other Requirements of the Position

This position may be asked to respond to campus emergencies after normal business hours and during campus closures.

The employee may be assigned to the emergency team that remains on campus and or evacuates to an off-site location during emergency events.

• Knowledge of disinfecting procedures.
• Knowledge of complex chemical cleaners and their safe mixing and use.
• Knowledge of complex floor cleaning and maintenance machines.
• Skill in safely performing disinfecting procedures.
• Skill in safely mixing and using complex chemical cleaners.
• Skill in safely operating complex floor cleaning and maintenance machines.
• Ability to safely operate and maneuver high speed buffers, scrubbers and other assigned floor care equipment.
• Ability to understand and apply LSUHSC rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
• Ability to apply safety policy and procedures for personal protection and the safety of the campus community.
• Ability to communicate information effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

• Ability to perform tasks requiring standing, bending, stooping, kneeling and walking significant distances between and within buildings.
• Ability to push, pull, lift or move loads of at least 35 pounds (bags of trash, cleaning carts, buffers and scrubbers, cleaning supplies and the like).
• Ability to perform duties within extreme temperature ranges between the interiors and exteriors of buildings.
• Visual ability, corrected, to observe dangerous situations in the work area (re: wet floors) to redirect others to avoid injuries.

LSU Health New Orleans Division of Property and Facilities is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Custodian 1 or 2 Evening Shift. There are multiple vacancies.

This position is part of a Career Progression Group (CPG).
As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a (Custodian 1 or 2) depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).

Compensation

Starting rate of pay for a Custodian 1 is $10 and Custodian 2 is $10.70 per hour. There is also an additional $1 Shift Differential and Pay $1 Longevity pay for hours worked only. Rate may be increased depending on applicants’ qualifications.

• 6. Follows established procedures precisely to clean and maintain hallways, corridors, commons areas, stairways, elevators, and building entrance areas daily.
• 7. Follows established procedures precisely to perform periodic floor cleaning and maintenance duties.
• 8. Follows established procedures precisely to clean and maintain kitchens daily.
• 9. Follows established procedures precisely to clean glass windows, doors and display cases daily.
• 10. Fulfills event set-up requests; b) cleans as needed and removes trash during events; c) cleans after events and resets space if needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Required Education: No minimum required.
• Number of years required to perform the job: 0 to 6 months
• Type of experience required to perform the job: experience in custodial, housekeeping, or food service work.
• Special Instructions Summary: No Civil Service Test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.
• Pre-employment Drug testing, Physical, and Criminal Background check are required.
