Job summary

LSU in New Orleans seeks an evening custodian lead to supervise Custodian 1 staff and perform daily housekeeping across restrooms, classrooms, lecture halls, offices, and common areas.

Follows established procedures for floor care, uses buffers and scrubbers, and maintains safety standards. Will respond to campus emergencies after hours as needed and may participate in the campus emergency team.

Qualifications

• Experience leading janitorial staff or similar team leadership.
• Ability to follow detailed cleaning procedures for multiple spaces.
• Knowledge of disinfecting procedures and safe chemical handling.
• Experience operating floor care equipment such as buffers and scrubbers.

Responsibilities

• Lead Custodian 1 team and perform daily cleaning duties for restrooms, classrooms, offices, and common areas.
• Clean hallways, lecture halls, and large assembly spaces following established procedures.
• Perform periodic floor cleaning and maintenance tasks and respond to events as required.
• Maintain safety and cleanliness during extreme temperature changes and during emergencies.

Job description

This position is for the evening shift 4PM-12:30AM, Monday - Friday. This is work providing leadership to employees in the Custodian 1 classification while also performing daily housekeeping duties including cleaning restrooms, classrooms, lecture halls, offices, common-use areas, halls and corridors, stairwells, and carpet and tile floors in a professional manner.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

• This position may be asked to respond to campus emergencies after normal business hours and during campus closures.
• The employee may be assigned to the emergency team that remains on campus and or evacuates to an off-site location during emergency events.
• Knowledge of disinfecting procedures.
• Knowledge of complex chemical cleaners and their safe mixing and use.
• Knowledge of complex floor cleaning and maintenance machines.
• Skill in safely performing disinfecting procedures.
• Skill in safely mixing and using complex chemical cleaners.
• Skill in safely operating complex floor cleaning and maintenance machines.
• Ability to safely operate and maneuver high speed buffers, scrubbers and other assigned floor care equipment.
• Ability to understand and apply LSUHSC rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

• Ability to communicate information effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing.

• Ability to perform duties within extreme temperature ranges between the interiors and exteriors of buildings.
• Visual ability, corrected, to observe dangerous situations in the work area (re: wet floors) to redirect others to avoid injuries.
