Job summary

York County Government is hiring a full-time Custodian to perform custodial maintenance across County facilities and ensure a clean and safe environment for staff and visitors.

This non-exempt role works 40 hours weekly, with shifts 5:00am–2:00pm or 8:00am–5:00pm, and requires a High School Diploma or GED with 2 years custodial experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Two years custodial/maintenance experience preferred.
• CJIS, Blood Borne Pathogens, and PREA certifications may be required per location.

Responsibilities

• Provide custodial maintenance in assigned County facilities.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed.
• Comply with County policies, procedures and standards.
• Receive and respond to inquiries from staff and the public.
• Order and stock cleaning supplies.
• Coordinate door locking/unlocking and security systems.
• Sweep walkways and parking areas; maintain restrooms.
• Distribute inter-office mail and mail to external boxes.
• Replace liners in trash receptacles as needed.
• Dust and clean surfaces and equipment; move furniture for events.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Job description

The Public Works Department is hiring a full-time (40 hours weekly), non-exempt Custodian to join our team. The purpose of this position is to provide custodial maintenance of County facilities to ensure a clean and safe environment for staff and visitors. This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Projected Salary Range/Grade 106:

$16.14 - $19.37, salary is determined based on experience and education.

Work Schedule:

This position must be willing and able to work 5:00am-2:00pm and or 8:00am-5:00pm.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides general custodial maintenance in assigned County facilities.
• Maintains accurate and complete records of work performed.
• Performs all work in compliance with County policies, procedures and standards.
• Receives and responds to inquiries, and complaints from County staff and the public.
• Orders and stocks cleaning supplies.
• Coordinates the locking and unlocking of doors, and sets or disarms security systems.
• Ensures walkways and parking areas are swept.
• Maintains cleanliness, and accurate supplies in restrooms.
• Collects and distributes inter-office mail and deliver outgoing mail to external mail boxes.
• Removes and replaces liners in trash receptacles as needed.
• Dusts and cleans surfaces including doors, walls, showers, refrigerators, microwaves and other appliances, and telephones.
• Moves furniture as required for cleaning and preparing for events and meetings.
• Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Two (2) years of custodial, maintenance or related experience preferred or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

• May be required depending on location and provided to you by York County:
  1. Certification in CJIS (Criminal Justice Information System Certificate).
  2. Blood Borne Pathogens
  3. PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) course.

Physical Demands:

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

• Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
